Registry Cleaner Software

There is no better registry cleaner than someone with regedit and the knowledge to use it. I would put the number of people with the knowledge to use it at 1 in 20 of those that think they do. Careful in there, you can screw up the computer in such a way that even Safe Mode won't boot. If that happens your looking at a Windows System restore to fix it at the very least, unless you disabled that as well. Even and especially those that know what they are doing will use other tools before resorting to regedit, unless of course they are reckless.

I used to use CCleaner, until the place I worked made their own which was basically the same thing. I haven't run it since the Windows XP days. Hijackthis is a good tool. It is limited compared to some of the others but you can remove things that the other programs won't touch with it. That being said you do want to know what the items you are removing from it are.

Agreed!! One little mistake and you can be screwed. One should always make a back up of the registry before editing it just in case you mess things up. At least it gives you a half assed chance at recovery.

If the SHTF keep a copy of "dban" on disk or flash'D.
