ROHN 25 setup help/tips??

View attachment 27515 I made a hazer for my Rohn 25 I bought a Yaesu rotor thrust bearing and my 100.00 rotor has worked for almost 2 years. A bearing is well worth the price paid to save a rotor. I have a 4 element Maco flat side and an IMAX on top. Works great.in case your wondering the hazer rides up and down the tower with a winch and cable.

Was that a Channel Master 9521 rotor or something else??

Channel Master CM 9521A Complete Antenna Rotator System with Infra-Red Remote Control for TV Antennas. But I paid around 100.00 now its 219.00 and they have another model for around 150.00 Channel Master CM-9521HD Complete Antenna Rotator System with Outdoor Drive Unit, Indoor Control Box and Remote Control - TV, HAM, CB, WiFi, Radio Reception. looks nicer than mine..
also 3 wire cable is less than 6-8 what ever yaesu uses.

I would NEVER use a rotator rated for 5 sq. ft. with an antenna system of 5 sq.ft. No headroom whatsoever and one step away from failure. I had a CDE rotator ( bought out by Hygain) rated for 7.5 sq. ft and used it with an antenna system approaching that and broke two ring gears over the years. It was properly mounted inside the tower with a thrust bearing at the top. It was the wind that tried to rotate the rotator that broke the gears. Now I am looking at installing approximately 22 sq. feet of antennas and have a Yaesu G-2800DXA rotator rated for 32 sq. ft. I feel better about this.

Apparently the 9521A can take a 2" mast and the HD only 1 3/4" max mast..

I didn't realize these models attach to the side of the tower and self center.. from 9521A installation..

about 30 years ago I bought my first cb a stock Uniden Washington and the PDL-2 antenna,I bought an antenna switch 2x100' RG-8 coax. I put this up in my dads back yard on 32' of metal fence post a legnth of 2" and 1 1/2" . I slid one inside the other and I had 2 ea 8' legnths of angle Iron in the ground and bolted the pole in between.the rotor was also a chanel master and I had it up 5 years and moved to my house and had it up for 2 more. the moral of the story. I was on a tight budget and bought what I could. I could buy the new yaesu rotor now but my setup is easy to drop and its cold out. Always buy the best you can with the money you have.
also do you have a plan to raise the 30 ft tower with a mast rotor and 2 antennas on top and will you be able to lower it when you have to for tune and adjust. fold over and crank up towers are also nice' something to think about..

How high up a lay down tower should you anchor your cable? Say the tower is 50ft, would an attachment point under 20 feet be alright?
