sometimes we forget that we're part of something magical

OK just playing devil's advocate here for a minute. Where in the story does it say that Lopez Saenz was an illegal? He may very well be but so far it sounds like a lot of assumptions being made without proof. I know several adults between 40 and 50 years old that do not nor never did have a driver's license. Simply having an Hispanic name and no driver's license is far from proof. Grounds for suspicion yes.....proof no.

In Texas when insurance became mandatory there was some thought about how to enforce it and verify compliance. Any transaction for license, registration, selling the vehicle insurance had to be proven. If you got pulled over and had no proof of insurance you were cited and had to prove insurance with in 10 days or your car was impounded. They have even gone as far as coming on to your property and removing the license plates with a warning not to drive it. 10 days later if not resolved your car was confiscated. Law suits were abundant.

Did they drive?

You sound okay as a dad to me.
I have had three kids in a car and have them all properly strapped in and before you get in and back out of the drive way at least one has slipped out of the restraints.
An 8 month pregnant woman may not fit under a belt especially if the seat is all the way forward.
My mother-in-law got in my car and refused to buckle up. She said "Since I'm is 86 years old It is my choice whether or not I'm going to use the seat belt." I tried every nice way I could think of to get her to comply to no avail. I'm now persona non-Grata until the second coming. I just told her if you do not put the seat belt on you can always walk.
Those are some really bad excuses you made up. A car manufacture would get their butts sued off if seatbelts didn't fit anyone that could safely fit in and control a vehicle. If she was so big, her seat would have to be moved back because she is as big as a house. If her children take off their seatbelts it's because they see mom do it and she allows that.

Please give a little thought to the excuses you conjure up.

I spoke with someone that was there in a professional capacity they said the truck went airborne after striking the Mustang in the back he also stated that the truck was most likely in excess of 70 miles an hour and said it looked to him as though the truck struck the oncoming car while still airborne. That was his first impression upon his arrival if that is proven not to be the case we should know more shortly. If true most likely seatbelts or not it would not have helped. A lot of lives are saved because of seatbelts on occasion some are lost because of them and sometimes seatbelts are merely on you when you die. seatbelts were never supposed to save us from a 120 mile an hour impact any more than airbags were meant to save you if veered off a 1000 foot cliff. Seatbelts claim to fame is saving low impact and minor impacts and keeping you from flying outside the vehicle.

Did they drive?

Did they drive and get caught 3 separate times with no license and get nothing but a $75 dollar fine each time and then continue to drive for nearly 5 years without a license without insurance.
There is a lot that is not being revealed at this moment. And Mr. Kilowatt I know what you are saying and you are correct to the degree that its a fair question whenever the law doesn't make it apparent exactly what the truth is it is certainly fair to question why I have a great deal of experience in things of this nature and my gut instincts are based more on what I know they are not telling us then what they are willing to tell us. In the current political climate, it's become customary to not offer up any more information than is needed to pacify the public I'm not pacified and I have made it clear to those in places that needed to hear it. We will see in the coming days or weeks what we find out.

If not having your children wear a seatbelt has no bearing on a being a responsible human being, who gives a crap about a driver's license?

It sounds like an individual's citizenship status was the cause of this crash?

Short legs make you push your seat forward, some kids can't be controlled as easy as you think. The Child Protection Act will have you cooling your heels in jail if you simply raise hand to strike the child. Simply raising your hand is assault. You don't even have to strike the kid.
Whether they had the seat belts on or not is moot. Even the one that had his belt was killed. That level of violence in a crash a seat belt won't do squat. A full racing roll cage maybe.
The roll cage would help, standard seat belt, no. Even a five point safety harness still might not have been of any use.

I don't think you are actually familiar with the child protection act based on your statements.
.

I will give you $20 if you can post a section of the National child protection act that says a parent cannot even raise a hand to their child.
This not from the child protection act but they use this definition of:
Assault

At Common Law, an intentional act by one person that creates an apprehension in another of an imminent harmful or offensive contact.

An assault is carried out by a threat of bodily harm coupled with an apparent, present ability to cause the harm. It is both a crime and a tort and, therefore, may result in either criminal or civil liability. Generally, the common law definition is the same in criminal and Tort Law. There is, however, an additional Criminal Law category of assault consisting of an attempted but unsuccessful Battery.

Statutory definitions of assault in the various jurisdictions throughout the United States are not substantially different from the common-law definition.

Assault and corporal punishment are not the same, at least according to the supreme court. Try again

Doesnt matter. All i know is that was a beautiful family slaughtered needlessly by someone that shouldnt of been on the road. Not to mention the two kids in the mustang that may never live a full life.
