Stryker Sr-440hp Review

Well i hope you get a good one Keesue!I have one and after a retune the receive is still not as strong as other radios i have had,seeing 65 watts out of it.Now a buddy of mine got one last week and the receive in it needed no retune.stronger then any radio i have ever seen but its only doing 45 watts pep and something is wrong with the low power ajustment pod.I can not raise the low power dead key unless i turn the varable power knob on the outside of the radio.Oh well maybe they will get the bugs worked out one of these days.

In regards to the low power VR in the radio Justin says that the reason it isn't functioning is because of the board design. He recommends setting the high dead key for 10-12 watts and calibrating the watt meter on the radio, so if you want a 2 watt carrier you simply adjust the power control down so the meter on the radio reads 2 watts.

I was really surprised to see what final was used in them-- they are so expensive here-- after talkin with Bennie briefly, I was even more surprised to find out that that final is widely available in Asia

I was still curious as to why they went with a fianl thats so expensive and not as easy to find here as it is overseas?
i realise that there could be other replacements but still wondering why they decided on that transistor?
 
Hello,

The M1104 is a very rugged and robust transistor that performs very well. All future SR-440HP radios will have the capabilities of using the M1104 or the SD1446 should someone not have the M1104 on hand. This will should eliminate any concerns regarding the availability of the transistor. We do have the M1104 available should anyone need a replacement.

Why was that transistor picked insted of the much cheaper 1446? For its ruggedness and heatriness?
I guess they are still widely available overseas where the radio was most likly made--- But was there any other reasons why a M1104 was chosen?
Where you choosing ruggedness and dependability over price?
If thats the case you certainly should be commended for putting quality over price-- too many manufacturers skimp and go for price-- sometimres it seems they will go out of their way to save the slightest bit on each radio and sacrifice quality-- simple things that don't make a huge difference cost wise but make a difference performance wise

Nice to see someone going for quality
 
We chose the M1104 because it fit our needs very well. It's extremely rugged, has a great design and produces 60-65+ watts PEP while maintaining a low operating temperature. The SD1446 actually is more expensive in Asia, but that never figured into the configuration. I may not have stated it correctly in my previous posts, but the SD1446 will work in all future SR-440HP radios as a drop in replacement. Future means the next shipments of SR-440HP radio that arrive in the country. We will use a system so the user simply has to look at the serial number to determine when the manufacturing change took place. We've configured the rear board so that if a radio owner is having problems with the M1104 and they don't have one on hand, they can use the SD1446 transistor without any problems. We're trying to make it as easy for the shops as possible.

If you're having any problems with your Stryker Radios I encourage you to send them in for warranty repair. I think it's imperative that I let you know we're more than happy to repair any Stryker radios under our factory warranty.

Now in regards to Justin's statement, that's his opinion and we'll have to wait and see how it performs. We try to keep an open mind at Stryker and encourage others do the same. :wink:
 
i would really like to see a ssb model with a freq counter. thats something that could take my s9 out of the truck.
 
Justin, Its been a month since your last post on this subject. How are we doing with the ssb project......? I'm looking forward to seeing it soon. You have any predictions as to when it will be available.. We wont hold you to it if you miss it a month or two. I hope it still has the best AM receive and transmit around with about 150 watts or so PEP... Good looking and a clean splatter free radio.

if it is a good product, people will pay the price ... Let us know something.. Alot of folks are waiting with money in hand wanting a good radio. Its spring and people like to spend money in the spring.... Figure it out and lets get it on the assembly line. :P
