It’s actually a pretty neat little radio for what it is. It’s not the most powerful thing made and it certainly won’t appeal to the truck driving crowd but it’s neat.

No, Shockwave will be along sometime and I assume he’ll post his findings. Why, do you know?

Or you mean that bionic bird? He’s gonna be fried chicken if keeps disrespecting me, tar and feather him.

Well, I was going to help - but tar and feather treatment for helping someone was not exactly what I wanted - I don't normally charge you know...

I meant tar and feather that chicken joker. Not you.

I looked at this one on the service monitor today, about 200% modulation if you crank the adjustment up in it. Oddly, it wasn’t flat topping or box car’d on the scope either, strange.

Ok, did some looking around.

Notice the SMD Op am chip with 2904 on it - just under the connector and by the cut wire?

The 2904 is a similar op amp chip to the 4558 - means it has an op amp for mic and the other for TX/RX switching.

There is another further over to the center by and behind J5 - a 10-pin ribbon cable connector - that connector is by a 2 channel Volume control (Conditioner) for Serial Data...M62429.

Ok, the YD 1517 is a 22 watt dual channel power amplifier...

All the datasheets I could get are on board this post...

The following is based upon observation and may or may not be the proper procedure, it is STRONGLY recommended that you review this post first and then decide - either to wait for verification or if you have nothing to lose - proceed with caution - any and all errors and liabilities are now on you.

Ok, review the above, you can always set up a test jig on a set of test probes with the 470 ohm resistor and see if this works, but the part he's seems to be talking about is here...the yellow box.

The Red box is so you don't get lost. These are steering and power protection diodes for areas that can be exposed to reverse or excessive voltages - they prevent reverse polarity or backfeeding from excessive voltage that can return into a circuit and damage it.

Let me know how it goes...

Thanks Andy. I think that’s what he’s talking about too but we’ll see. I’m not above experimenting either. Not sure yet what I’m going to do with this radio. I bought it for resale but I like it so much that I’m thinking of putting it in my wife’s minivan.

A minivan?

I remember seeing a Plymouth Voyager with a bumper sticker that read "Just Visiting This Planet"...

Kinda' fits...

Another Sub-Space transceiver for the Wife and Kids...I love it!

But anyhoo, the mod he talks about lessens the level of drive the base lead gets to turn on that AMC amp So you'd only notice an increase in modulation drive level for where the Mod limiter is set now. Means it will boost mod but not by much. (Not that you'd want too)

I didn't know if you knew this but it looks like the unit is driving the "dual final" as a single paralleled unit - that is a STEREO 22 watt amplifier - so it is capable to modulate the AM side for at least 20 watts - the entire case is one big heat sink for all the parts involved.

So yeah, wait for the confirmation - but by what I see the entire front corner is dedicated to the Mic amp and limiter with little else in it's way. The serial data conditioner though - that M62429 - to see that was a little unexpected - these units are more for single ended car stereos and the stereo systems that use "pushbutton" or rotary encoder type of controls for volume balance and if installed with an EQ circuit feedback - handle tone or equalizers too.

It's why I threw the PDF's in with it to help the next person make sense of it.

Much appreciated too, thank you. It’s a Honda Odyssey, I want to stick it in there for vacation time, you never know who you need to talk to or harass. It’s small so it’ll fit just about anywhere, hidden.

I don’t guess so much for the SRA10mm.
