Suggestion on 1KW 2m amplifier

Good to see you back Warren. Hope all is well. Yeah that looks good but unfortunately it takes $$$$ which I don't have.

Yes! That one grabbed my eye also...
However I offer this news:
My 6m signal may be about to increase!( I hope!)
Complete Tear down and rebuild of an SB-221 Chassis...
Been dabbling with amps for a day or two, but this is my most extensive project to date.
Very near completion. There was nothing left on the chassis but the Filament and B+ transformers, and the two Johnson (3-500z) sockets.
Smoke test may happen this weekend!
Wish me luck!(y)
Pics to follow if the magic smoke does not get out!...
All the Best
Gary

i use to run a henry 2k on ssb/ fm simplex on 2 meters about 20 years ago one of the better amps on the used market today.

Do tell how those 3-500's managed to work on 2m. Getting 3-500's to work on 6m is not a big deal but getting them to work on 2m is rather formidable since they are speced to operate at with max output at 110 MHz max. they have to be derated greatly above that and in general the tube elements are quite large to be operable on 144 MHz.

There is a guy called mego that will make you a 4kw 2 meter or 1kw UHF amp if you want.

There is a guy called VO1KS on this site that can make up a 6m or even a 2m amp using commercial Larcan television modules if you want to pay the price for near perfection instead of something just thrown together by some anonymous builder. I have a 1.2 Kw 6m amp from him.He is local to and is a buddy of mine. The Larcan amp modules are not small but they are 100% duty cycle 24/7/365 with moderate cooling and you do need to add a 50 volt power supply and switching. They are not plug and play but then again anyone running that kind of power should at least know a little bit about HOW to run it and not just simply how to turn it on IMHO.

The owner rich is a super nice guy

If you are just ragchewing across town, then no, it does not make sense.

Spend some time ragchewing on VHF/UHF in SoCal - you might change your mind, lol. Sometimes you need a couple hundred watts just to get a word in edge-wise.
