Superscanner antenna Yeah!!

I rebuild the inside control boxes, putting new 12 VDC LED bulbs in place of the 24 VAC bulbs they come out with. I also have to put in a diode to change the 24 VAC to 12 VDC.

I also have a spare super scanner I would sell. I have replaced the RG58 coax that goes to the elements with RG 8X so it will take more watts.

Wattage for these should not exceed 500 watts on directional if you push these in the omnidirectional setting yo will burn it up and a part replacement will be needed its just the way it is with the superscanner.

kamikaze I also say people would buy these if they were remade nowdays ad bs you suggested I also agree there is a few things that they could actually focus some extra attention on and make these even better.

If parts were not so scarce Ide love to experiment with one of mine for a few of the other bands. I was actually thinking about donating one to an antenna company I have in mind if they would look into and consider manufacturing an antenna like this or simular.

Stuff like this antenna stopped being available when the CB antenna safety regs came out.

These days it seems people are getting around that little problem.

What other bands are you thinking about?

I believe its a capacitor in the relay box. We just had a guy out here burn one up about 2 weeks ago after everyone told him not to get crazy with his clipperton L he just purchased.

As far as other bands 10 and 12 meters for starters Im sure with a tuner it should have 10 meter capability but how efficient? I used to have the older style or first generation Supperscanner aswell and I was told that model handles a little more power. It had an omni stub coax that hung down and the control bos was biggere with if I remember right yellow lights instead of red. The box was brown and longer unlike the later flat standing silver box with red lights.

What exactly burns up on these when power exceeds the do not exceed level?

It's mainly the relays in the phasing box outside on the antenna. The contacts can't handle the higher power especially when switched while transmitting.

Just remember that the tuner will only compensate for element length and not spacing nor length of phasing lines. The further you stray from the design frequency the worse the phasing becomes and the lower the gain as well as the directivity of the array. Also with higher SWR goes lower power handling limits due to higher RF voltages developed.

Yupp CK Im with ya I was also thinking about the power cutback from the High Standing Wave Ratio. I remember seeing a article on a rebuilding and customizing one of these for I believe it was 6 meters if Im not mistaken.

CK this was such a great idea in a simplified beam I just cant imagine why "Antenna Specialists" stop production and wonder why nocody ever picked up where they left off!?:confused:

Still working great

They are a great antenna, dont run over 500 watts through it though.I ran one for years...Then went to Sig.Eng. Thunder8b...the same idea...but with 2 balums, and fires North South,or East West...both great...73s from cold and icey Missouri, hehe de JW

I have had my MS119 up and talking for 7 yrs and have always ran DK 800watts up to 900watts with swing up to 1800 watts with no issues . The one thing you should never do it switch the selector while in transmit. As long as your in the single beam position and not in all 3 and never switch positons while in transmit with power on you should be fine. Now with that being said I have low SWR and check my SWR everyday . There are great antennas and I have said for years that I can't understand why a antenna co. doesn't make these. With all the builders out there there's got to be someone that would want to build these and step up the relays and beef up the build to build a great set of these . I wish I had the $ to start building these .

never used one myself but know locals that have. was curious if one was to
buy a sirio dipole 3 of them would it be possible to design one of these
yourself with 3 sirio dipoles ?

AAARRGH! I cant figure out WHY my swrs go up in beam mode but in omni mode the swrs are ok. maybe it needs new coax for the stubs? Anyone know how long the stubs are that go to the legs?

Or, instead of the coax stubs being 'bad', maybe the 'stubs' going to those elements are the wrong length? (Good question, BTW)

There are some locals that run these and they do ok but for all the problems that come with running one I would just get a 3 element beam. The omni pattern is more like a three leaf clover and some oldtimers would put rotators on them to hit stations better in the nulls. Lots of headaches for the preformance they deliver. Not trying to start a war about them but this is my 2 cents and that dont buy much.
