Apparently CarlBuilt (former X-Force) has a 4 pill for $349 and another $60 for the SSB biasing. Video up on YTube.

Thinking for the price it's cheaper than a TS500 out the door. Also never had a custom AMP before. So the cool factor is a draw for me.

Plan maybe to run the AT6666 into it at like 30w PEP or my Galaxy 86v with similar wattage as a base setup. Would use a PowerMax 75 amp PS.

Thoughts??

Interesting video. Output seems optimistic from HG transistors...but at least they're more down to earth with reasonable drive levels. Not sure I'd be running 200 watts into it for long!

I didn't catch what voltage he is running on that particular amp, but saw on another video 14.8V.

EDIT: I was looking at the class C amp initially...with tons of drive.

Watched the biased amp also. After he checks the radio it sounds like he says "240 watts peak", unless I misheard him. It looked like he actually put about ~35 watts in and saw ~700 out (peak). That still sounds a bit more than I'd want to run Chinese transistors at. Anyway, seems to me like your 30 watts would be a reasonable match.

So I'm thinking of ordering the 400HD tonight. He quoted me about a week lead time.

Good price on the amp for sure.

Just hope a week lead time does not turn into months. That's why I don't like paying all up front. Sure I will pay half up front, and then when amp is ready to ship I pay the other half.

Here are pics from YTube (not Carls' channel) of the 4 pill.
