Gamegetter I operate SSB 99.99%.... normally monitor or call 27.555 and move to QSO....I do at times also use 38 lsb.....I use 2 division station 333 south Texas as a Dx call. keep an ear out for me.....It would be great to hear for any of you guys!!
Have not had a radio to use for several months...it in the shop!! but have located a SSB unit to carry and use.....operating off a couple deep cycle batteries and a generator for lights at nite that can charge them if needed. Fishing is much better at nite so it leaves hours of the day open for Dx.... really looking forward to it. This is the first time I will be completely away from all the city noise levels here in Corpus. I have operated in the past from a city park a couple bocks from my home and the bay really seems to help as a ground plane. I operate mobile only....no antenna up here at the home. This location is so remote there is no electric nor any other utilities for miles. The Laguna Madre Bay and Gulf of Mexico waters are on all sides except for the sand dunes that make up Padre Island Seashore. Closest highway(US77) is about 30 miles or so west across the super size King and Kennedy ranches.
Waverider....I heard a guy a few months ago working Dx with a 2 watt walkie talkie....he was in the City on a tour...... in some tower or high rise....had gone out to the balcony or outside area?..... I don't remember all the details but he was the same way....zero on the meter, just audio but was having a ball working stations all over the SW USA with a telescopic antenna and a couple watts.
Conditions make it or break it.....this is the reason I feel the antenna is the most important part of a radio system....if we can't hear them we can never work them....if we all ran 1000-2000 watts antennas might not be as important?? i rarely run over 40-50 or so and many times less.....I think QRP operations are the really cool. If I was a Ham.....I would operate a Tuna Can Xmiter just to see what can be done!!
I can't find a metal beer.........I mean beverage cooler!!! Guys again THANKS for all the help and ideas.
