Wondering how you did it ?? What would you have done different?? Any regrets?? .. What I've been looking at ~ Stryker 955HP + 4 Pill or RCI69FFC6 or Super Star SS-158VC6 or ??? Got to have ~ 10m&11m, 6 digit counter, freeband capability, unlocked clarifier, plus other stuff I do not have to have.. It'll be run thru a good/great Shop so that everything is in line....
Any ideas or recommendations on just the radio and radio enhancements ??
Thanks Folks, 44 Dan (FNG)

Welcome Dan!
The Stryker 955 is hard to beat for AM and SSB. I run one with an X Force four pill and it is a great combination. It is actually made by the company that makes the Anytone radios and has the noise reduction feature for tx and rx. It is basically a digital DSP filter that takes the static sound out of the noise floor. The Ranger built radios don't have it and are behind the curve. The 955 can run a mic with an electret element if selected in the menu. I have been getting great results using an electret element from a telephone handset.

Thanks Chris... That's a great bit of info as I had no idea about that... That's the kind of info I'm looking for...
I'm leaning towards the All In One type of system because it'll get moved between my vehicle and my shack on occasion... Two separate pieces offers a much greater variety of equipment.. I'm adding up the advantages of one over the other and your info helps with the final decision...
Thanks Again, 73's Your Way

the 69FFC6 has bigger heatsink on the back of the radio vented top cover and a fan in the back to draw heat out and improve stability while the amps do get hot if you are a long winded talker but some things to think about your not going to overdrive the amp your not going to have 2 sets of power cords your not going to have to run a bunch of jumpers and if you have a switch installed you can turn the amp on and off when needed and not saves on heat and also makes it if you ever wanted to drive a bigger amp you could later down the road the C6 i have seen videos of people getting 720 watts

the LongHorn N6 is another radio that has a straight 6 fet amp section that people are seen to be getting 700-800 watts out of not a 6 digit counter though wish it was but has a large fan on it can turn the amp on and off from the front of the radio comes from the factory like that 951 uses one and talks in skip all the time

2970N4 uses 4 2879 transistors and gets you about 400-450 watts i know your looking for bigger but still a great radio it has split talk on one channel receive on another for repeaters not needed for 11m band has 6 digit counter and if you hit the man button it will show you 1-40 but you can go 10-11-12 meter bands just don't talk on the 10-12 meter bands as thats ham and requires a licence

the 2970N2 is the same as the 2970N4 but with 8 mosfets in the amp section and does 250 watts

the stryker 955 HPC is a great radio it has many things that are menu driven meaning nothing needs to be set on the inside of the radio but if you don't know what your looking at or doing don't mess with anything or you can ether mess up the tune or trash the radio it does 80 watts some people have swapped out parts and make claims of 100-150 but when shown elsewhere they don't do that much basically they are set up like a magnum s980 2 drivers and 2 finals

the 99N4 same amp section as the 2970N4 and same power output but has lighted face talk back and echo not a 6 digit counter though does have an amp switch from the factory is a nice radio

so what it boils down too is what do you like best voltages will play a roll into output but to high you blow up the radio and running the radio hard all the time will shorten its life amps are the same way and just because someone posted a video of a radio or amp doing a huge amount of power for 5 seconds does not mean they all do and does not mean they will do it all the time it gets real costly for people when they see that and think they can do the same thing and blow their gear up and don't seem to understand why

To be honest any of those ulta high powered radio's are a complete waste for many reasons. That is just way too much going on in a small space. Best bet is get a Stryker 955 with a clean conservative factory tune/alignment and match that up with a mic that sounds great with your voice type. Then add an external class AB amplifier that can do a comfortable clean 1000 watts. Enjoy, your done.

Thanks for all the Input as it is helping narrow down the final... Dropping a grand on a new radio system requires much respect and knowledge in my world.... I am glad I posted here... You Folks are alright in my book.....
Blackcat630 & 9C1Driver make great sense.... Tunercars and I think along the same lines... I'm leaning heavier into what Tunercars mentioned... I'm thinking of doing a combination of everybody's ideas here and maybe go with a little more powered radio and "maybe" adding a little more powered amp on down the road...maybe ,,,,,,
I really like the Stryker but I'd have to beef it up to where it would handle more just radio power, this has been done reliably many times OR just go with something like the SS-158VC6 that is what I'll try to turn the Stryker into ???.... .This is one of those situations where if I (me) put it on paper it answers itself... I think I'll go try to find some more info on that Superstar...
Thankyou Gentlemen
I'll keep y'all posted....

I almost forgot something about the 955. In the latest version, there is a provision to put a factory power board in it to increase the output to 100w if I remember correctly. There is a thread about it here somewhere, I will see if I can find it.

Maybe @Greg T knows?
