When the radio you want finally comes up on ebay but you don't have the cash

I’m not saying I’m going to buy that one but it’s just a model that’s been on my bucket list. A local had one back in the day with the full setup and it was pretty awesome. Its value is because it’s a collector item and because it has some pretty cool tech for a radio of its era, but I agree that in the end it’s just a cb radio. I’m smart enough these days that I don’t blow money on nostalgia. Just don’t see the full CPI sets too often, they are like unicorns these days.

Most of my collection is considered low end garbage, but that’s exactly what I like to refurbish and use. Part of my makeup dictates that the old, the ugly and largely forgotten past radios also need some good loving. I have a few older high end radios too, but they’re not much better at getting the job done. The price vs. performance ratio doesn't make much sense to me anymore. Once again, the antenna plus having a mic that fits your voice are far more important.

No matter the device: there is that magic of coming to understand the mind of the designer. It changes our understanding of what is being accomplished.

WHAT is possible, and WHY.

I’ve seen several impressive sets via the courtesy of this board. The attraction is obvious.

Will such ever be made again? And could I afford it?

I’ve never been in a position to afford a SEQUERRA
Model 1 FM Tuner. But have never forgotten the obvious brilliance on its announcement. Years later visited the home of a man had one. (Magic).

I joke about having a household shrine to St Herman Hosmer (Scott). But when I run into that which was “just right”, it’s awe at my fellows ability.

Truth & Beauty, gentlemen. Tell me, please, where one ends and the other begins? I’m of the persuasion that in the end they are indistinguishable.

I have heard so many people talk about not being able to find parts for these pieces? I have never owned one or seen one in person here in North Florida & understand they were popular on the West Coast when they were available?

I've always heard good things about them, but I've never seen one, nor knew anyone that had one. They are neat looking and futuristic for the time.

Things that are not valuable to me or you might be to a " Collector"
We all have our radio hobby and I am sure there are people that think we are crazy.
" Why would someone spend hundreds ( thousands ) of dollars on some electronics just to talk to some one in another place when I can call around the world on the cell phone in my pocket"
So to some we are all nuts.
We like our hobby.
It is what we do.

To some It would be nuts.
Its what some like to do.
And so it goes.
Some like to collect old cars or old stuff that others call junk.
Some like to build hot rods or fast bikes.
It is a hobby.
Its what we as individuals do to justify all the hard work we do every day so we can (insert your fun hobby/thing here)
when we have time.
Different strokes for different folks.
As long as your having fun.......
At least its not Bennie Babys

I see many things on Ebay I would love to have here are a few

10k+ vinyl record collections I have at least 6 to 8 I would love to have

6 or 8 stereo receivers all 60w+ at min of $400

Laser disc collections of 500+

Model train layouts$ 2k+ I have seen like 4 I really liked but they are a min of 800 miles away and you load it and move it yourself
