Yeah, I don't believe in all the "super swing" and "big talker" mods that people are doing to these radios that are already good talkers. I plan on buying it from DTB

Which "High Power" radio

DTB would be a good choice. I would second that recommendation. I have personally seen his work, and it's pretty good.
Personally I would save my money and not buy a high power radio, but I would get a TRC453, TRC-465,PC-122XL, President AX-144, or Uniden Pro 810 and a small amp like an RM or TX Star, several options exist for uppers and lowers for most of these radios, I think the TRC-465 and PC-122 are pretty much the same board. And since you already have the PC-122, maybe buy NO radio and big amp instead.

iirc, you were looking for something with a built-in amp in the ranger line, but the Superstar 3900 GHP (if you can find one) is a bloody simple, decent, dual-final radio.
It doesn't have a built-in amp or anything, but doesn't need electrical upgrades to be happy, either. other than the channel selector switch, it works the same way as the PC122 so there's almost no learning curve. it's not going to get much easier than this radio for her to make the switch.

Thanks, I was looking at the VR 9000 also for that reason. But she likes the modern styling, and I was looking for a little more punch to talk across town over the hash, and for some fun on DX
For a high power radio you will need to use bigger wiring just like an amp. Under 300 watts stock batteries n charging sys should do. Probably ok with 500 amp. Running heavy gauge wire is worth every bit effort and if done right makes vehicle more desirable to buy when sell it. You can run inverter. Bass amp. Etc without risk of damage to the vehicles electric system
I actually have around 30' #6 THHN copper laying in the barn left over from when I did electrical work that I plan on using.
I stumbled across a thread that mentioned the Alinco dx 70th. This is not a radio or even a brand that I have herd of before. Was looking for opinions on it.
I may never get a chance to find out, we have had a few vehicle break downs this month which has really put a strain on the budget:redface: I would have the 465 looked at, I have a PC-122 in the wife's car. I have had it for years and it still impresses me, I have talked around 30 miles with it barefoot mobile on ssb. It sounds good on AM too, she has keyed over truck drivers before and it's surprising how the audio on that little radio comes thru.
