10 and 12 m exports

thanks

appreciate all the info, i have no intention of talking on the freebands but do want to know about them and maybe some day just listen in.

I sort of feel the same way. I have no intention of DX'ing on the freeband; as ham I can get all the DX I need on my own frequencies. That said, I have no compunction about talking to local friends on a few "freeband" frequencies where they gather.

I believe in having different radios for different bands. I own an ICOM IC-575, which covers the range from 26 to 60 Mhz. It's an all-mode rig and I have it programmed for various 6M frequencies, including SSB calling, AM calling and FM calling. I have a separate 2M all mode radio for 2M SSB. I have a separate 440 Mhz FM radio. Thus I see no reason not to have a separate radio for 10M and 11M. I just like radio! :D

First as a Pilot and one that used to monitor Ham bands working in a Warranty facility for most of the mature brands at one point you can spot fakes. For instance in Aviation the new guys always sound out of place on the radio. Same thing with Ham's few CB'ers are going to take the time to listen and learn. On top of that I am assuming we are talking SSB Voice since I have never seen a died in the wool CB'er learning code unless they intend to get into Ham world. Have you ever listened to the conversations on AM..... Usually it sounds like your listening to an episode of Jerry Springier! On top of that most of them can not not resist the "Golden Screw Driver" so eve if they do have a nice 10/12 meter rig like a 2950 or chip switched HR2510 more then likely it will be over modulated or in some other way fuzzy sounding or they will have forgotten to turn off their irritating noise toy!!! The use of slang not associated with Ham's etc.......

On the other hand if it is a nice guy talking about the breeding of gold fish and his rig sounds clean, no foul expletives and is not broadcasting with 1500clean watts and an additional 2500 watt's of harmonics and you enjoyed the conversation I would not worry about it!

Not all CB'ers are ignorant trouble maker's just like all Amateurs are not small minded bigots with a false sense that they are in some way better then most other humans that inhabit the earth!Truth be told the main reason it took me so long to actually decide to get and maintain a licesne that is not going to expire in a year is the attitude I encountered as a young man working in a shop that serviced them. I also did the breakfast meetings too......Most of the ones I was exposed to while all very smart men where not very good people! It left a bad taste in my mouth as a young man. Now that I am older I understand that surely those guy's must not be the vast majority of those that into the hobby. Just like I am sure that even though in my area the only people I hear on the CB are people living in trailer parks with 3000 watt splatter box's getting drunk each night and acting poorly on the radio using the F word all the time do not make up the bulk of the people that own a CB!

I can recall a time when CB was a very friendly place, where no one used any swear words but times change.

As to identy theft your Hobby is the least of your worries! The federal and state governments do not protect your privacy at all. In fact I can pull up your tax records, marriage, and all kinds of data on anyone I want for $19.95 a month. I can drop $4-$11 at almost any police station in America and do a criminal back ground check with out the person even knowing about it. If you go dumpster diving at any Hospitals trash, Doctors Office or Government Trash like the IRS for instance you can get all the info you wanton people and not be breaking any laws in the process.

You information is so public that anyone that is not a complete idiot can find out what ever they want about anyone for very little. Most people do not steal the identy of people they know. How do you get stuff delivered to you or your ip adress andnot get caught by someone that knows you.

I had someone steal my debit card info and I know when and whereit happened when I was on the road traveling. It was too easy to find out the IP address purchaseing the monthly porn subscription with my card from the vendor then track it back through the company that owned those IP address's etc.......So the people that will steal your information today are not like they where in the 1980's it is someone that is going to sell your info in bulk to people normally outside your country or people that have set up a temp. address at a business area and they are going to use that site for about a month to receive good then leave before anyone get's wise then resell all their free good on ebay or craigs list etc.....

With all the illegal exports, how do you know you are talking to an actual ham? What if other person just makes up a fake call no. And here you are a legal operator and you send out your call sign. The other person could locate you if they wanted to. Is this a problem? I am newer ham just getting started and just thought I would ask.

Most of us share our first names after establishing contact. At the top of this page you can input someones call and get (if the call is legit) the operators name. My PC is adjacent to my radios just so I can ascertain if some shiggity is going on.

Most unlicensed export users know enough not to operate on 10M. Some export radios don't operate in the phone portion. An unlicensed operator would stand out like a sore thumb. Having said that, I've worked many new Techs and even experienced hams, who sounded suspect to me but checked out OK. For the most part, "bootleggers" are few.
