My pc is giving me a blue screen every-time I start it up telling me to replace the hard drive......I have run spyware and anti virus and got nothing...in fact the pc goes to the blue screen before the scans can finish....I did the scans in safe mode also.

Also need to know how you find out what HD to buy to replace the bad one......the pc is a HP p6510y.

Check all wiring for loose or dirty connections. This includes any video, sound cards, etc.
Check power supply for proper voltages on the 3, 5, and 12v rails. Some BIOS will have that in it. If not; check it with a meter.
Clean the CPU fan and make sure the heat paste isn't dried out between the heat sink and the CPU.
Check the motherboard's battery.

then . . .

Try another hard drive to eliminate the question of the last hard drive at fault.

Hardware failures are a big culprit of BSOD errors. Looks like your PC takes a 3.5 inch SATA drive. Just pick up another SATA drive that's equivalent in storage size or larger. Do you have your reinstallation disks that came with your computer? If not, I can help you with that, as long as you have Windows 7 and a valid COA on your PC case. Once you get your new drive, you might be able to hook up your defective drive in your tower and read it for any porn (I mean files) that you need.

Unfortunately your hard drive is indeed failing and what you have happening is the first warning signs or the heads up kind of the calm before the storm. Whats happening is you have bad sectors and when your machine gets to these sectors or sections of the hard drive it cannot retreive the data that is necessary to to keep windows running. Alot of times when this happens you can use a program to shift things around and block off bad sectors so you can retrieve any important data before it completely shuts down.

There are also tricks to get the drive to boot for short periods to slowly retrieve what you can but its very timely. if the drive is bad and wont boot into windows I can still take the hard drive 95% of the time and run it through another device and get files ETC although there are times that the drive is to far gone and just plain shot that nothing can be saved.

Message me what brand and model number computer you have and I can get you the info you need to order a new hard drive I can find you whatever you need and you will want a new one and do not buy a used hard drive or chances are real good you will be going through this again before you know it.

Ive been seeing alot of bad hard drives lately and alot in newer computers which is a shame. I actually have to order more myself as Im running down to the nitty gritty because Ive been replacing so many that Ive about used up all the new ones I had here. Ive repaired quite a few "Laptops" that were newer that the drives failed and it simply floors me that its happening at such a high volume.

I actually have a stack of laptops I need to put drives in and load Operating systems in so they can be sold and I can get them out of here. theres a few desktops here that need to be done with new drives aswell. Let me know what you have and Ill get you in the right direction and if you need any further help I can walk you through it.

It was my girlfriends pc...its a newer nicer one than mine.....she has it filled up with pictures and geneology stuff and crafting stuff and music and videos and law stuff.....when it started messing up she asked me if I wanted it....she made the reinstallation disks when she got it.....yep windows 7.

Take a picture of the blue screen and post here. There's valuable information in the top, left corner of that screen. Quit wasting your time with virus scans. If you can, go into the event viewer, system log and look for stop sign's. All the details of your problem will be identified in these two areas and the second guessing will cease.

It's telling you to replace your hard drive because your hard drive is going Tango Uniform (tits up). This a hardware failure -- all the virus/malware scans in the world won't fix the fact that your hardware is failing. ;)

The event viewer sez the reason it keeps shutting down during virus scans is that the harddisk has a bad block...whats a bad block? must mean a bad sector.

Thanks KM for telling me about the "Event viewer" (y)

Run a check disk. It will schedule to do during a reboot. It could take a couple of hours depending on disk size. A bad block does not necessarily mean a bad disk, happens all the time. Cross your fingers it repairs the bad blocks. Where's that blue screen snapshot?

I am running the check disk utility....will take a pic when I boot it up again. :)

The check disk utility is saying windows is replacing bad clusters.....and it is still running and has not crashed....hopefully it will fix the problem. :)
