Heard back from John. He is running a Yaesu FT-450AT, a 2 transistor Worth-more amp at about 300 watts, and a Larry's antennas screwdriver antenna.

Yeah, I was just west of Texarkana, and I think he had just gotten off work. He lives near Canyon Lake. Having fun with this little mobile setup, that's for sure!

Talking to my friend Little John yesterday when coming home from Arkansas, and while I didn't know it at the time, Matt W5MIX recorded us. Rough and tough conditions, for sure, but we had a decent qso at about a 430 mile distance. Despite the limitations of the ATAS-120A, the system works...
When you get it, be sure to check to make sure everything is right. My street address had two numbers transposed. It was correct on the application, so it happened when they entered it at the FCC. I didn't even notice it because I was so excited to get it... fixed it later on when I caught...
Have you had time to string it up? Just curious how it's working for you. I just ordered the EARCHI and also bought the 9:1 "QRP" unun from Balun Designs. I'm going to try them both out and see what I think. Looking to put these in my "go box" just for kicks.

It's good that you are honest in your details of the rig. I don't think most people will care, especially if it was restored by Mike. He has a good name and reputation out there, and if anything, that's what I would be more interested in. "Most" guys running AM don't seem to be too concerned...
Pretty sure Mudfoot used to be M42 Duster, so that makes sense to me. Like I said, I heard they worked decent. I think I was going to buy one from H+Y a long time ago, but the shipping was just stupid, so I passed. Funny stuff about the using it as a weapon. :)

ROFL! Well, it's hard to find stuff sometimes in a search... I have lost my own posts sometimes! I *think* Mudfoot bought one of the ones you are looking at off of Ebay and like it quite a bit. You might ask him?

They have been around forever. I think Telex had the original one way back in the 70's. I know there are some threads around here where a couple of guys tried them, and they seem to work pretty well.

From everything I have heard, the Sirio is the right move. That being said, my Wilson 5000 is a "real" Wilson, and was made before Barjan bought them. No problems with that antenna. I think Stryker was doing a knock off, but believe it was a Barjan with the Stryker name on it.

I'm going to go with my old friend "Night Prowler's" setup. Tram D201A, Silver Eagle D104, Phantom 13 tube amp, Wilson Shooting Star, and Taylor .64 wave Grand Slammer ground plane.

Well, I was thinking that when I saw your ground setup, but didn't want to assume. For sure, I won't tell your wife. lol... I have to be pretty sneaky with my radio stuff, too.
