looks like 2 versions of the uniden 980 radios

I had a suggested video pop up on YT this morning from Bell’s CB on a “tune up report” for a 980. Video was recorded in July of 2012 and that radio has a dual clarifier. I’m not sure when Uniden started selling the radio, but this certainly has to be an early one.

RCI-2950CD owners chime in.. new owner here

Ok, I did some research and the SSB power output control was disabled if you removed the “mod limiter” Q32 in the old radios. Not sure if thats the same with the newer radios and I would not recommend removing that circuit, but that’s what I was trying to recall. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

RCI-2950CD owners chime in.. new owner here

Does the RF Power knob adjust SSB output ? It’s been a long time since I had a 2950 (first on I had was labeled Mirage) and I seem to recall the SSB output power was not affected by that knob...only AM power. Do you see less SSB power output with the RF Power control throttled back ?

The TYT MD-UV390 and a Zumspot: DMR on the Cheap and Easy

I’ve been running the VOIP networks for over three years (Wires X node, DV4 Mini, OpenSpot, DVMega, MMDVM ZUM board repeater), and have had almost all the devices that have been offered. Currently running a DVMega on a Raspberry Pi 3 with Pi-Star image, DVMega on BlueStack board for mobile ops...

    President Bill any opinions?

The mic has up/dn channel buttons, but the front channel display of the radio is pressed either on the top or bottom of the display, to change channels as well, so it can be done at the radio.

    I dont understand

Man, I guess I am getting old (I am). I remember back in the days when a fellow with the handle CW Morse used to be on the forums (this one, Grumpy’s Olde Time Radio Forum, etc) and bashing CB operators about their “Leenyar amplifiers” and trashing “export” radios. Nothing changes...except the...

    President Bill any opinions?

Despite the name and the size, I have a President Bill FCC radio and find it to be a decent radio...for what it is. I got it on Amazon a few weeks ago when they were selling for $90 shipped. While I am a sideband operator, the small footprint of the AM-only Bill was really interesting to me. I...

looks like 2 versions of the uniden 980 radios

I have owned a few 980SSB radios since they were first introduced, including the earlier boards and later redesigned boards. They all have dual clarifier controls, as have the radios that friends have owned. I had noticed the difference in the stock cover photo several years ago and I believe...

    The Anytone "Smart CB"...Opinions?

The EU version (which has FM, as well as the various European band configurations) lists for £99,50, and that converts to around $127 US. President radios are not priced cheap, so the Anytone Smart CB will probably half the price of the President. I would anticipate the Bill FCC to sell for at...

    The Anytone "Smart CB"...Opinions?

President Electronics will release their micro CB radio in the next few weeks. https://president-electronics.us/CB-Radios/AM-transceivers/BILL-FCC It has the smaller President mics, which have good audio, and the 6 pin jack, which will accept the Uniden wireless mic.

Local Police frequencies now encrypted, yet media outlets have access?

There was a story some years ago about a Sheriff’s Dept in Florida (IIRC) that had provided a radio to a local media outlet, so they could monitor the encrypted police activity and report it. At some point, the Sheriff’s Dept got p*ssed at the media outlet for some reporting they did on the...

Chime in if you own a Modern President CB Radio AM or SSB

I have a Lincoln II (ver. 3, bought in 2014), a Lincoln II +, and a pair of Grant II radios. I think they are decent for a modern day radio of this price point. For my needs (ragchewing with a couple of friends on 10 or 11m), they work, and sound good over the air. Between the Lincoln II and...

    FT-891...anyone try this mod?

I have done it to my radio. It works. I was confused by some of the pictures posted online because the shorted solder pads did not resemble mine. I figured the pictures were from European models, but the two pads indicated are the correct pads to short. It is a tight space, so use a very fine...

Looking for optional CTSS tone board for Anytone AT-6666

I don't speak German, and I don't know if they ship to the US, but this is the optional (now included) board... http://www.pmr-funkgeraete.de/Funkgeraete/Zubehoer-PMR/Freenet/Mikrofone-sonst/Team-CTCSS-DCS-Modul-fuer-Ham-MobileCom-1011::8745.html The more recent AT-6666 radios come with the...

    Yaesu FT2DR?

Battery consumption may be a big issue for these radios. I have an FT1D, and barely get 8 hours of monitoring time (with the GPS turned off), using the supplied 1800mAh battery. I ordered a 2000 mAh battery and rapid charger from Batteries America, because I definitely needed the spare battery...

Has anyone tried any of the new Yaesu Digital VHF/UHF rigs?

A local club in Pottstown Pennsylvania just put a Fusion repeater online, currently operating in mixed mode (AMS- automatic mode switching). As of late July 2015, it is a temporary install to do testing/shake down, and will come offline to do final tweaking before permanent installation. I have...

    Bell's CB

I bought a couple radios from Bell's in the past year (President Lincoln II and Magnum 357). No problems with Bell's at all, and good customer service. I didn't have any modifications done to my radios, so they shipped pretty quick. I can't comment on tune ups or mods, but Bell's has a lot of...

    nmo "special" coil

I have a Larsen coil marker "Special". It is for a wideband scanner antenna they make...it is not made for transmitting. It is a triband monitor antenna, covering VHF-UHF-800 megs. I own one of these for RX purposes. However, the coil is a shorter one, about 1" or so in height. I have also...

    Optima MK lll

The Optima is pretty similar to the 2950 in performance and features, but has a better and quieter receive than the 2950. The narrow filter feature on the Optima may be of use to some. I don't use it, but I don't work crowded bands. The Optima has an open clarifier, which is needed since it...
