Actually, one of my suggestions was to add SSB to another radio. I didn't have one in mind, but I was going to mention that having one SSB radio out of the entire line has got to be losing potential sales. I'm not extremely familiar with all of the models, so you think the 447 would by the kitty?
Over all, with a few minor changes, I think this is the best NC mic I've played with. Once the plosives and breath noise are dealt with, this mic really sounds great!
Yup, it doesn't take much, but the breath filter is absolutely necessary on these mics. I have a meeting coming at the end of the week with shawn and I'm going to recommend this mod.
I just stuck it over the front to test it so I could try it on and off a few times. It truly made a world of difference. I'm going to disassemble the mic and put it against the screen, eventually. I can't even believe the difference it made in audio quality.
I've been playing with mine and trying a few experiments. Here is what I found. The adjustment pots work, but need to be a bit more responsive. Gotta crank them way too much. BUT, this mic has more gain than the Palomar. It's hotter and actually sounds better. BUT, it desperately NEEDS more...
I've installed nearly 100 1/4 wave whips in my time and always, always used the ball and spring mount for 108" NEVER had to modify the length of any of them and the absolute WORST SWR I have even had on an installation was 1.5:1. And that was because the antenna was mounted on a truck directly...
Gregg at WeElectronics in Florida, the Stryker service center, has just closed up his retail shop. He will remain a Stryker service center and warranty shop, and will have a few, hand-selected customers. His walk-ins are done and he's selling out tons of unclaimed and repaired radios and amps...
I know someone with a repairable dx-250. His radio decided to put a 16W carrier on SSB and let the magic smoke out. He clipped the power wires off and shelved it. If you're interested I'll see what he's going to do with it.
I'm on right now, made a few contacts to the east of me. New jersey, new york, pennsylvania, etc. But I'm bouncing between 36 and 40, with an occasional 16 if anyone's on.
The skip this evening was incredible!! Short and long skip all together. I talked to the East Coast, South, Canada, and short skip for me into Illinois, Indiana, and even Detroit!
There is some truth to that, but not much. I believe the vast majority of the big splattering stations come from cbs, not hams. I could be wrong, and if somebody knows the truth about it, please correct me.
