I think he is talking about the Northpoint radio's that look like Magnums. I know they volted the finals on those to get MOPOWA, on the down side the audio suffered. Have a tech check it out, if the finals are volted un-volt them and re-tune the radio. Should be good to go. The model numbers...
When the Stryker first came out they made it very clear it was not the same as the Magnum radio's. Sleepwalker your right, I maybe should have said that the front end Mod made it worse.
Down at 40 watt dead key? Heck, 40 watts should be the very max dead key you would even consider. Your variable range should be 8-12 watts turned all the way down, and 40 watts wide open dead key. If it was set for 50 or more thats why your not very loud.
From some of the threads I have seen the Mod is the problem. There are a number of people here on this forum though that will never believe that. The truth hurts, just wait and see some of the replys you will now see.
If the radio is actually stock, (just converted) then your first step would be to have a qualified tech do a correct tune and alignment. You will be surprised how well that will work. Along with that try a different mic. Whatever you do don't go playing golden screwdriver radio tech and start...
I have run a MagnaForce 100, 200, and 350 as well as two Jokers, a Palomar Magnum 4500, and numerous Texas Stars. The Joker was my favorite but they are impossible to find. I have been running a Magna Force 350 for about a year now. When you consider the price, delivery time of days, and...
The 148 and Uniden Grant xl are single final radio's. Here is the best advise I can give. The 148 / Grant xl are exellent radio's, all they need is a corect tune and alignment with no clipping of any limiters. If you are in the 14-18 watt range leave it. If you want more power get a small...
It's the same radio with more power, not much more to say. The S9 is an exellent radio, the 80-90 watt version should sound the same with alittle more grunt. Even the standard S9 now has mosfets, after a basic tune and conversion our local shop is seeing 55 watts. Very cool.
Like it has been said, it can be done and for those that cannot run an amplifier thats the only option. The car engine example was very good. Swapping out finals will give you dollars per watts, take the same 80 dollars you spent on your radio and buy a small amplifier, you now have watts per...
He did a great job, and I think it is very cool he can tinker like that with positive results. I wish I had the know how. That said volted radio's are bad news so don't get too excited. Checking that radio out on a scope would be something to see I think with volted finals and 1 watt swinging 40.
Cool deal, be careful with that 18 watt dead key, thats a bunch. Most radio's I have ever had were usually tuned to 2-8 dead key range, I have an S9 tuned by Bob's cb and it's range is 1-10.
I take it you volted the finals then to get those extra 5-10 watts?
You will just have to do alot of reading up. The Cobra 150 & 200 are considered 10 meter or Export radio's. They have many freatures like different bands of channels, variable power, higher power levels, roger beep, echo, and FM. The legal 40 channels are 11 meter band AM. Exports will talk on...
Good lord, why would you spend 136 dollars to ship a 200 dollar radio? I would send it back to Clays because they are supposed to stand behind their work. If it is defective they should give you a new radio and they can send it back. Wow, what a ripoff.
