The stock mic is supposed to be pretty good from Yeticomm. They have upgraded the mic and it is suppose to be well matched to the radio from what I have heard. And pretty much any 8 pin Icom mic will work on it as well. Try the stock mic before you rush out and buy a 2018 extreme. JMHO.
I would get the 450D or even the FT991. That is the one that has the most freqs. HF/50mhz/VHF/UHF. That or look for an Icom 7000, or something like that. The 450D's seem to work pretty well from the ones I've heard on air. Stock mic and just setting the radio up right goes a long way...
Yep there are still some optima MK3's left from Yeticomm. Like 338 said, you need to look at the ones from the dealer which is Yeticom. I think there is a web addresss and here it is showing the optima mk3 in stock as of the moment. The web page I found is: www.survival-systems.com
Look here...
Most of those radios I think either D, E, or F were the CB band. Hard to tell those days as there isn't much traffic LOL!! But if you have any type of freq counter you could see at least where you are or close to like said. Good luck and like the others have said, hope you find which bands...
That is one thing I has issue with on my 2018 extreme. Try loosening the back screw that doubles as the mic hanger. That might help. Don't overtighten the back of the mic. This seemed to be the reason mine stuck. Other than that the mic itself works great on most any radio I have put it on...
There is one for sale here now for $250 I think. And it's from Yeticomm. They are great radios for SSB use and are not bad on AM. No they don't have that big Galaxy sound on AM, but they are clean and clear. Yes you can mod them to work well on AM I am sure, but they are or were built more...
My S400-12 is a workhorse for me! Has been flawless for about 3 years now. And yes I do use it quite often even if it's just to listen to the bands. The 50A supplies are great as you can parallel them without any other parts needed. Just adjust voltage accordingly. And the price is not bad...
No sir. It's coming up fourstringburn!! February I hope to take the test at the Hamfest in Orlando, FL. A few weeks away. Not far off!! I am studying and will hopefully be able to get my Tech then General at the same time!! No doubt I am ready for the change. And I know you guys won't let...
What about the new yaseu ft991/A. Might be another one to look at as well. Supposed to be a good radio and has it all. HF/50mhz/VHF/UHF. I like the Icom 7300 as well, but this could be another option.
Just try at some point to attain a couple lower wattage ones for checking reflect as they will be easier to read for you. A 10 watt slug would work well I would think. Might not be a must, but wouldn't hurt to have. And don't know if this was mentioned or not, don't be suprised if your power...
Good work man! Takes time to get things right. Looks like you took your time. Feels good to complete a project as such and be able to then use it for years to come. Good job Blackcat630. (y)(y)
I've had pretty good luck with the optima MK3. And it's possible that there may be a few left still. Look up the actual dealer in New Zealand, a member here as well he is, as he has some optima mk3's he found and was selling them last I saw a couple weeks ago. They may be all gone by now or...
Would be nice if they just made a new CB/SSB radio. And not like the newer 148's either. I don't mind the 29lxle chassis and face that much, but the center button is just an accident waiting to happen. The shaft is just to flimsy. Fix that issue by adding a button or getting rid of something...
Hope it helps. They are definitely good mics. Work well with most radios. Good luck and hope it works out for you. Have a good one and keep us posted as to how it goes.
73 and God Bless
Both will cover the 27mhz band. One is just higher frequencies than the other. That is the only difference.
And no there shouldn't be any difference in the coverage as far as 27mhz goes.
Hope this helps. Have a good one.
He is saying inside the mic to jump the audio line across the PTT switch. You might need a piece of wire to do this. And the wiring code for a 4 pin cobra is:
So pin 2 wire would get soldered across the PTT switch. Use a piece of wire if needed.
Pin 2 is the white wire. Take a piece of...
