It would be cool if they would increase legal power to 25 AM and 150 SSB.
When I used to read the FCC enforcement actions, it usually wasn't someone talking skip that was getting busted. It was the guys that ran big power out of band.
I'm actually now leaning towards tje center fed doublet for 80 meters fed with 300 ohm line and connected to my LDG tuner with a balun and short length of coax to get inside with.
I think that's what I want to try doing. I only need about 10 feet of coax to get to the outside, and, once there, I can mount that balun or one like it where it will be out of the weather.
How does the SSB RX compare between the Lincoln II v3 and the 2950dx? I've always found the RX on my original Lincoln to be quieter than that of the 2950. I'm wondering if the new Lincoln II v3 have that same nice RX.
I'm still wondering how to get the 300 ohm line out of the shack (assuming I go with Camaro's suggestion to feed the 80 meter dipole in the center).
Am I right to think that pushing it through the existing 3" PVC pipe that already has 4 runs of coax going through it is going to be a problem...
Looks like I spoke too soon. I went back to trying to use the on-board audio, and have the original issue. I went to Best Buy to buy another sound card (the one I was using belongs to another computer that needs it back) and discovered that Best Buy doesn't sell sound cards in stores anymore...
The only problems I see with that are for one, the LDG tuner has only a coax connector for antennas, so I need some way to transition to the ladder line; and two, I need to get out of the shack without the twin lead getting disturbed by any other feedlines like the 4 runs of coax already exiting...
I want to build an off-center fed dipole for 80 meters and up. I will be using an LDG AT100Pro II automatic tuner.
Possibilities I have thought about are:
a) feed with coax with a 4/1 balun at the feedpoint.
b) use coax just to get outside the shack and place a 4/1 balun there and go the...
I think I may have got it solved. Because the "Wave" slider on my Windows volume control was a bit twitchy, I was using the TX power knob on the 847 to get the power set to around 45-50 watts for SSTV. That may have been what was producing the garbled images.
I tried leaving the radio power...
Since getting my FT-847 back repaired, I am trying to get SSTV working again. I am using MMSSTV 1.13A (latest), and a Tini-Cat-847 interface which seems to be functioning properly. TX freq is 14.230 into my wire antenna. Running 50 watts.
I had this same setup working a few years ago, and...
I am looking for an affordable place where I can order wire and insulators and stuff to make a couple of wire antennas.
I am familiar with The Wireman, but their prices seem a little on the high side, but maybe that's just because it has been a few years since I was looking at that kind of stuff.
This is a delayed follow-up to this thread. Jack got my radio done. The SSB TX problem was with a user-installed (by me) filter was shorting to the chassis. He dealt with that, cleaned the radio very nicely both inside and out, and did a pre-emptive fix on the power switch to make sure it...
Thanks for the replies. I dropped the radio off at WillCo up in New Lennox, IL a couple of hours ago. He said it might be a couple of weeks before he can look at it, but he seemed confident that he can diagnose and repair it. He has mostly very good or excellent reviews on Eham.
