Well guess what?
The PBT works.
It gets rid of all the white noise..well 90% of it.
Still playing with it but it is quite surprising. Totally unexpected.
Changes the audio positively on receive.
Unfortunately I do have a prototype and it changes both RX and TX.
Which is not good.
All new...
Someone needs to record the differences on SSB to see if it helps anywhat. My gut feeling is that without a knob it is not going to help a great deal because you normally need to roll it a bit one way for USB and the other way for LSB.
Be a pain to have to go into the menu each time...but if...
And cooling...most CB's have insufficient heatsinks and fans for the power they generate. Mosfets are OK up to 40w or so for a pair.
Most of the radios leave the factory around 22-25 w PEP in order to meet spectral purity standards.
One exception is the tryker SSB radio. Out of the box around...
M-8900
I believe the new insert will be dynamic but a little better quality than the earlier ones. It is more of an issue for the 8800 than the 8900 but we won't know till they arrive. Looking for an additional 5khz step on the clarifier so the extra programming takes a little time.
Not sure...
Not sure but did request they desensitize it in SSB.
Hopefully hardware change but maybe software..don't care as long as it gets fixed!
I think it is an SSB issue...
Hope the 8900 has not blown up Simon !!! Hi Hi
How is it going?
Made any contacts on it?
Does it get very hot?
Noisy rx? How is the AGC? FM?
Easy to use?
Do tell us some more!!!
Ours are still a few weeks away as getting some other mods done on it first.
Cheers,
Dave
M8900
We are supposed to Have samples on the way but waiting for them to upgrade the microphone before shipping.
Simon re 227 I think I was on the huracan MK1 !! Changed the stock mic to a heil CM-4 and keep the mic gain down around 12 oclock and she is sounds wonderful.
Used the M8800 in 238...
10khz switch
On the earlier cre 8900 the 10khz switch went up 20khz!
Just program in the lot and dump the 40ch stuff and you won't need to worry about the 10khz switch.
Don't worry about it. That's why the radio gods give them blokes clarifiers on their SSB radios..so they can tune in the SSB signal so it sounds the best to their ears....
Maxlog dynamic insert is real crap. Replaced it with a kenwood MC-43 insert and what a difference. Astatic 36 also tried but the kenwood turned that M8800 into a radio.
How different are the two motherboards to look at? Maxlog certainly easier to use than the anytones and I prefer the receive too. But very sharp TX audio with standard mic. (Ver 6)
Great for DX but the locals complain! Any dynamic mic works well but if you have a 6 pin magnum 257/s-45 electret...
Can you get it on to 11m OK from the front panel...function and hold call for a couple of secs I think..?
Hopefully the master reset will cure it.
Which is....???
It could well be a quirk of the radio and nothing to do with the installation..but having said that make sure you recheck all the earths and grounds in the radio and antenna.
SWR protection
I am sure there is a good reason why these radios can suddenly show hi SWR for no good reason. I am also sure that it has something to do with the way the circuit measures the swr in SSB. Something to do with the auto ranging of the SWR detection circuit not reacting quickly...
