11 meter is very quiet?

Anyone ever used one of the bearcat 980s on ssb? Little off topic I know lol

Not off topic at all. It’s been discussed, even in this thread.

I bought one and my son runs it now.

It has some quirks I don’t like - the stepped mic gain and such. And, i tend to get the “unwanted talkback” problem that’s been discussed here a couple times.

But the danged little rig sounds GOOD. It does well for my son. At what I paid for it you just can’t do any better for a new SSB rig.

I’d love to find a good source for the expansion boards...that’d take it to the next level.

Man that blows, cut his coax lol
Seriously, I would have to talk to that guy. I mean if I was bleeding I would hope that someone would let me know so I could turn it down a bit.

Well the thing is, he knows. He says that’s power, just pure power. I just stand there shaking my head. He’s a legend in his own mind, his narrow and tiny little mind, no his uneducated on the subject mind.

I shall erect a tower and beam of epic and massive size - then get that guitar amp from “Back To The Future” and key on him every time I hear him. Or I’ll just use a laser to blast his station to a zillion pieces.

Or maybe just cut the coax, lot cheaper on my end.

Haha you got me rolln over here. Don't cut it, go outside and wrap a pork chop around it and throw a dog in his yard. By the time the leo gets there the pork chop will be gone, and so will a section of coax. Hang a sign around the dog's neck that says "this is just a warning".

Getcha one for a backup

Pack everything into a Harb Frt Apache transport case (2800 thru 4800 series) with all that you need as spares, extras, etc to the main radio. Kl203 amp, small power supply, etc; whatever fits your idea of a go-anywhere radio of this sort.

There may be better, but anything with less performance is a waste of money.

See threads. Has been discussed several times.
