11 meter is very quiet?

I will be sure to call you, 808, when the dx shifts more north east of me. Maybe tomorrow will be better for conditions? I don't know if you heard me in there tonight or not? Those mountain ranges are sure hard to get over using a ground plane omni. Once I get my "cloud burner" 5 element back up on the flat side, it won't be a problem. I assure you :)
I was not able to hear you, it was rough and tough out there for sure. Will try again tomorrow, I am on vacation all week. I have plans for a 5 element maco or a 4 element quad or something, not quite sure yet.

The 5 element Maco would be nice to run on the flat side. The Lightning (former Signal Engineering) 4 element quad is also nice seeing it is a true fullwave antenna instead of a 1/4 wave quad like most others and it's not too big. The only thing is it doesn't hold up to freezing rain well (ice storms) due to the fiberglass spreaders. ( I don't know if you get ice storms where you live) I had the 8 element version (42' boom) installed when I lived up in Ontario Canada (65' in the air on a Delphi free standing tower) and it got loaded down with ice, one year, and broke a section of my 2" boom. But it was probably the best antenna I ever ran, performance wise. My first contact was Russia. I have the Antenna Specialists M134 "Mariner" now. It's a well made beam but not as "beefy" as the MACO. The elements are a little thinner and the boom is as well. I have a 4 element MACO here in the shop that I assembled and ran it for a week on the vertical but took it down because the 5 element would have a little more gain. It's just sitting here doing nothing lol. But what ever you choose will make a difference for talking DX. :)

Will he need a fishing licence?

I am an Avid fisherman & I don't know of any states where you need a License to fish for trees no matter the species.I use a Rod & Reel because fishing poles are usually not long enough to get over those high limbs but if needed my surf casting rods will get a 1 oz piece of lead clear over anything that grows in Florida with ease.
