I don’t use extra channels on CB or care about Skip either.I can talk all over the world on Ham Radio so I don’t have any need for it on the CB where I just talk local if possible.

The only difference is, I like to provide myself with multiple options. I may not transmit on the lower frequencies, but it’s still enjoyable to legally listen in just the same, like I would with my general coverage receiver. I also care about skip conditions, on the ham bands and on the CB. I have talked all over the world on both. Many Hams would never think about expanding the transmit range of either their VHF/UHF or HF radios. I won’t argue about their valid choice. Truth is, you will be hard pressed to find a Ham or a CB "experimenter" that hasn’t done at least one transmit/receive expansion mod. It’s a distinctive Gene found within their DNA that separates them from becoming appliance operators.
I am a General Class Ham Operator & I NEVER listen where I can't legally transmit.I have ZERO interest in upgrading or in those frequencies just like the so call FREE BAND frequencies on 11 meters.I am not & never have been a SW Listener but being a Retired 30 year State Law Enforcement Officer I try my best to stay within the Laws of the Land & not just on the airwaves.I wish everyone would & the country & world would be a far better place for us all.Who knows the 11 meter band might not even be labeled the Children's Band if everyone used it like it was suppose to be used in the 1st place.That would be AWESOME but it will NEVER happen in the history of the world.My backup radio (ICOM 746) will transmit out of band because it is the only way I could use it on 60 meters.My ICOM 7600 already had 60 meters so it will only transmit where it was designed from the factory.

Yea, I also thought about getting one of those Tytera TH-9800 rigs that’s on your list. Like most VHF/UHF Chinese concoctions,out of the box it’s capable of going way beyond the band limits . Having those extended frequencies that cover MURS, FRS and the marine band could be of great service during some disaster. Just saying...
I have frequencies all over the country for 10 & 6 meters as well as repeaters on 2 & 440 across the S.E.USA where my wife & I travel sometimes but nothing out of the Amateur Bands.The TYT T-9800 has been a lot of fun for me with the Diamond CR-8900 Quad Band antenna.Band openings on 6 & 10 meters make it even more fun.

I feel the same way, I cant transmit on Digital TV so I don't listen or watch either. 45 years and the hate of 11 meter operators is alive and well. So sorry to see that. 73's anyway, cause we are nice
I know this is a bit of an old thread but thanks for this link. This guy's blog is pretty interesting - his Ammo Can radio kit setup is pretty darn clean.
I think you misunderstand the rules. You may own a radio that transmit & receives all over the place without a license at all. It is against the law to transmit where you don’t have a license or where you’re license does not cover that part of any band. Outside the Legal 40 channels on CB is legal to listen to but illegal to transmit on. Anyone may own any Amateur Radio to listen anywhere but it ‘s Illegal to transmit without the proper license.
