Anytone AT-6666 Replacement Electret Microphone

The best replacement microphone cartridge I have found is the WESTERN ELECTRIC Model EL2 Electret/FET. it was used as the mic element in the 4A and 6A speakerphones. Designed by Bell Labs and built by WECo. Film electret cartridge followed by a FET preamp. High output and crystal clear audio. 600 ohm output impedance. 5-15 VDC power. Two 5 volt hearing aid batteries will run it practically forever.

A friend who worked at Western "liberated" a few dozen for me. Good units that failed the Bell System EQ curve test. Scheduled to be trashed. I use one on any CB that requires a power mike. I have seen them listed on the surplus market for about 10 bucks each.

Thanks for the tip on the EL2 Electret elements. I’m going to try one of those out in the future. After unsuccessfully finding the circuit boards I removed out of several of those 4A speakers, a little research afterwards indicated the element was contained inside the rocker switch or so called “transmitter” part anyway. I assumed it was inside the speaker box along with all the other circuitry. In the past I converted a few of those boxes into ordinary external radio speakers, but tossed the circuit boards aside in the process. The following illustration and Ebay link shows what the 680A Transmitter part looks like. Consider it as another possible part source.

If you like a little history about the EL2 click on this link. I especially like the photo of the lab with developers.

You think! :LOL::ROFLMAO:

That picture of the Anytone mic...I actually did take an old mic apart and put that Midland bezel and interior wind screen on the face of the AT-6666 mic. Temporarily with glue dots.

It's in the trial mode to see if the pfffs are gone. Folks say it sounds fine.

But then at one time or another I'm told both the stock mic with/without sock and DNC520 mic with/without sock sound fine. :whistle:

Yeh I'm through with it also. After this post no more talking from me about mics for that AT radio. I've been all through the sock drawer testing and evaluating for the best sock to provide clear unmuffled deep resonate modulation.

Now that I've found that, I'm through. The information can only be acquired from me for a price. The drawer is closed. :)

Christmas sock will be in place in a few months. :whistle:

Just had 10 minute QSO with Larry in Wisconsin on 27.415. He said audio sounded great. Mic on my end was the AT factory mic with the old Midland windscreen on front and...you know it, a thin black sock over that. Sounds weird but it seems to work.

That's My Mic & I'm Sticking To It (y)

I have the Lincoln2 and always hated that pffft sound from the stock microphone. I had to try the sock trick. It worked. Hahaha. I dont think I will use it mobile, that would get some strange looks my way for sure. As of now i run a rf limited 2018 with the 6 pin adapter.
