The funny part about going to 28 is you don’t need to do that to get somewhere quiet. If one has the ability to go that far they can probably go anywhere in between, in 5kc steps, or even a different mode. It makes little sense to go into the ham bands, even if you don’t care at all about the rules.
As far as ham bands...I’ve listened to the lower HF bands a bit, but it’s still pretty dry. I think I might find more interest in 20-10m DX if I listened there. I have pretty much zero interest in 2m-70cm and beyond.
You have to find your niche. It took me a couple of years to find a group that I liked. If you enjoy radio and don't get caught up on the ham vs cb thing there is something in it for you.
If nothing else just get your general ticket. That way you can buy stuff from the ham classifieds without getting the stink eye.
