I cant say much about it, But ranger has just released a new radio based on the 2950dxpcb that is a base station. The difference is the size(smaller than a galaxy 2547) and the face is more like an Icom with a touch screen. It will be low power "35-40watts" and in the mid to upper $500 price range to start. Pics will be on the net within the week!

Yeah but it's the same ol' same ol' discussion over and over.

The hams rigs don't have blasting loud AM modulation. So if AM is important to you, gotta go CB or export. Only on sideband? Get the ham rig.

The cheaper ham rigs dont have good AM, but the better models do.

And there is also the new Alinco DX-SR8T at around $550, which could be better rig than IC-718. Would be interesting to know how it does on AM.

The 2950dx certainly aint very good at AM transmit, compared to the collector modulated CBs.

Most ham rigs can be made into AM screamers, with little effort. Disable the ALC. Put a good mic on it, and watch your modulation levels. You will absolutely need a monitor scope. Don't run more than 25% of the max power of the rig; i.e., if the rig runs 100W PEP output, run no more than 25W carrier (dk) of AM. Modern ham rigs can be excellent AM performers.

I wonder what the pricetag will be on these I may have to replace my DX2527!! Never thought Ide do it but for a dual band 10-12 meters I would do it!!

I had 2 of these 2527 but one just sat on a shelf in the closet so I traded it this past year for some other 2 meter and dual band 2 -70cm equipment. These 2527 have always worked good for me only issue was the radio quit a few months back and it was an internal fuse that went out on the power supply board I replaced it and thats all it took. Ive ran the one I have hooked up for about 15 years or so.

the original poster stated that the radio will be in the mid to upper $500.00 range wow that seems over priced for what i see and only 30 to 50 watts. i am a RCI fan and have several but i would not pay more the $350.00 for what i see and what little i read about the new radio. for $400.00 or a little less you can get a 200 to 225 watt RCI 2970N2 or for $550.00 or a little more you can get an out the box 150 watt base station the 2995dx. i rather have the extra watts then a touch screen that i bet will become a problem and an expensive fix. i love RCI radios i'd rather see them come up with an romote mounted face radio for a solution to mounting probles in the newer vehicles. give us something like a Yaesu 857D
