Best place to get an amp?

Yeah, I've not heard of him, or done business with him. And, there's lots of folks, good businessmen and scoundrels alike, that I've never heard of, lol.

The guy that rebuilt my Cadillac engine was well established, and as I said, had great ratings and all that. But, I still got shafted.

Give it a few days, see if anyone here has actually done business with them, and proceed accordingly, I suppose. It might be, too, that someone may have a better alternative, I don't know.

I will say, though, that I can understand the "no return" policy, if it it would make me uncomfortable.
Was it a Northstar engine?

An exciter is the transmitter feeding a signal to that amplifier. That means that there has to be a way of switching that amplifier 'ON' when transmitting and 'OFF' when receiving. that can be done in a couple of ways. RF switching is one, if RF is fed to the amplifier it turns 'ON', and then 'OFF' when the transmitter quits transmitting. Another way is by relay switching done in the transmitter (not as common with some radios). And then theres the way of using two switches, the PTT for the transmitter and simultaneously another switch to turn 'ON' the amplifier. Typical ham radio transmitters have that internal amplifier keying circuit, just have to turn it on.
Since your reputable dealer won't offer a warranty, I have to think the amplifier in question is a 'garage special' and may not meet any standards. Run, don't walk away from that stuff...

Was it a Northstar engine?

Yes, it is. It does still run, by the way. It just burns oil. And, the valve covers on my old engine looked brand new, but I got the car back with some crappy covers with with bubbly paint. There were some other annoyances, too. I didn't want to get into detail, as it wasn't relevant to the thread, but I'll gladly share greater detail, if it interests you.

Anyone know what sort of plug is connected to the back of these amps? Or are they bare 8 AWG?

Just skinny bare wires. A nice mod or up-grade for a Texas Star amp is to ditch their whimpy factory wire for something better. With a 500v it has a goofy dual 30 amp fuse deal on the back. I have seen some where some remove the skinny wire and bypass that goofy fuse setup. They run nice #8 fine multi strand wire from the board out the back and add a 60 or 70 amp in-line blade fuse holder. Then add the Anderson connector after that and your all set.

Sounds like an awesome upgrade.
So basically remove the skinny wire and replace it with 8awg which i have some welding ones left. What sort of soldering iron would you recommend. Ive only got a fine tipped low wattage currently.

Done my due diligence and I feel the Texas Star dx500 or v model will suit my setup consisting of the 955hpc.

My question is where do folks on here buy from? I was going to by from an eBay seller 7eighteen electronics, apparently their a brick and mortar store in NY for over 20 years, issue is according to them amps dont have warranties. Was hoping to at least have a DOA warranty. Anyone heard of them?

Cheers

I have purchased 4 Texas Star 500V amplifiers from these folks. They come ready to connect to your radio.
I also upgraded the power wires to Marine grade 8 gauge cable, installed an inline Maxi-Fuse holder and use a 60 amp Maxi fuse. Also installed a 75 amp Anderson Power Pole connector.

I read few negatives about copper, hence I stayed away from them. Paid 40 more from Delta Electronics in Brooklyn , they operate under that name on ebay I posted earlier.

Its a great CW amp ;-) lol
