Coax length on mag mount question

No one told you that it’s not possible to talk without drilling a hole?

You could probably talk around the solar system if you just broke out the drill.

I think I’m going to put one of those tripods on my roof - welded, not drilled - and run a A99 on it.

SHAKESPEARE Big Stick. Factory paint match.

Or, man up and let’s see a custom DDRR on that roof.

Those radials may appear to be short but it will help balance the currents.
-73's

They really won't because they're so short as to be non-existent as far as the antenna system is concerned and the ground plane as far as the antenna system is concerned is the roof under the mag mount.

I don’t think the presence of an RF issue after shortening the coax is an indication that a magnet barely does the job.

Really it is and if you understand how antenna systems work you'd know why. In the presence of a poor RF ground the antenna system will try to use anything it can both to source electrons from and return them to, usually the coax. So if you have a length of coax that's providing sufficient source and sink and you shorten that then it'll go further down the chain trying to compensate which then means your radio as that's next in line and any wiring from the radio such as the microphone and power wires.

1. The antenna is not “barely” working,

2. My radio isn’t next in line.

You are correct......"Your antenna is barely working right"!

Let's see here ......mag mount antenna w/ poor ground plane and shortened coax.....oh, then the coax runs to the radio (which obviously has not good ground, hence sourcing ground through mic.....resulting in lip burn).

The things you are posting are not even true.

I wrote in the original post seven pages back that I extended to coax to factory length and there are no issues.

That’s the biggest frustration I’ve ever had with this forum - people make up things to get their rocks off.

How exactly do you determine that my antenna (or any for that matter) is “barely working”, that my coax is “shortened”, or that I’m getting RF Burns from the mic?

I truly don’t get people like that, that insist on offering criticism on things without being bothered to read.

Well....that supposed micro ground plane sure is a farce. It is as useful as a Stargunn antenna. Do some antenna research, do the math that comes with that. Then we can discuss some antenna truth.
