his service monitor has a sinad meter inbuilt i belivie ..Watched Snake's video on this Cobra 29 . . .
He used a VU meter to align the receive. Hey Snake; get a SINAD program and try to learn how to do it right.

Think the first week is free; might give it a trial.
Another thing: when aligning a receiver, use no more than 4uVs from the sig gen. Otherwise, the AGC circuit will cut in and skew your results.
A VU meter cannot tell the difference between signal, noise, or distortion. So, all you've done is got all three mushed together - and call it 'peaking the receiver'. Nothing could be further from the truth. You could use your ears with a speaker and do what you are doing with that VU meter and attain the same lack of accuracy. No real advantage or difference. Either way is wrong. Net result will also likely yield front-end overload.
It's true that you've gotten better gear; but are still as yet unable to utilize them.
Take all of this in and do better. Or, disregard it all and comtinue not getting any better at it.
Not putting you down.
If I wanted to put you down, I'd have called you a dipstick, and left it at that . . .

but yes you are right re the uv meter he is using..what we dont see is what its hooked up to ..
guessing some ac to dc circuit of some sort on the speaker lead to measure audio level?...if so all its reading is signal + nosie+ audio (from gen )...
what gets me is the service monitor has a sig gen inbuilt also why use the other thing?.
best not comment no more or i wil get another 2 weeks of abusive emails from him and he will be despressed for another 6 months telling all his customers how much he hates me (why i only speak the truth)
I like most of us in here have forgotten more about electronics in one day than he has gained in a lifetime
i am glad he followed my advise and brought the service monitor and signal gen..pity he does not use the scope he got ,or hook it up to the service monitors scope output instead of using the internal one that looks like it needs a service
as for his driveway cleaner and wash method...open the coils and channel switch I beat the AZ sun has not dried them out
