amen brother cut it off ,dinner timeMy late wife had her own version of that.
She told me to keep my sermon short and threatened to raise a sign with KISS -keep it short stupid- on it when I took the pulpit.
And so, true to her word as I began my sermon she raised the sign with a grin on her face. I fear her sign was better received than my sermon.
I don't do digital anything, I spend all day dealing with computers, hardware, software, and top of it all..end users. I turn on the radio, the tubes warm up and I am happy, hell the digital display is all most to bright. There is no computer in the shack and never will be.

@Slowmover my wife makes me wear the mask. She don't want me dying and stinking up the house. Nope, this ain't no dem dive. My Daddy also taught me not to let anyone do my thinking for me.
@543_Dallas I do have a Cobra 19. It always does exactly what I want it to do. Trouble is, I don't want it to do anything.
A TIG torch?..…Surely you jest!Don't get rid of the Cobra 19. You can rob them for parts and the covers can be cut up to make L brackets for other projects.
What kind of soldering iron are you using? I tried one of these and the radio never worked right again.

So Homer I got my license too. Expanded from 11 meters to all the other bands. Got into FT8 pretty quick. Still though I see and agree with your sentiments. I have not done any work with Chirp. Doubt I ever will. I can do a programming stint by hand but I don't really care much for it. I bought a Yeasu FT-726R radio because I loved the old school base radio looks of it. I don't really use all of its functionality. It has a 144 board in it as well as a 440 board. Has one other I can't even recall but I think it is for satellite. Won't ever do that probably. Have not done any 440 yet. 146.52 is my usual hang out frequency. Still though the just plain downright simplicity of using the 726R is really great. The most complicated thing is setting the tone for the repeater. It has some memory slots that I have programmed repeater frequencies into. I still have to twist a knob for offset and set the tone after selecting repeaters from the memory knob. Still it is less complex to use than the HT units I have. Programmng those can be a bit cumbersome. Each HT has its own method of being programmed which kind of annoys this old fart but I guess that is just how it is. Using that old 726R is more fun to do than the HT anyway. It only has 10 watts out but I have to tell you it gets out as far as a lot of 50 watt units guys around me use. Oh and the receive on it is just short of amazing. So yeah simpler is better is what I am really getting at. Menu diving isn't one of my favorite things about radios.
