I seem to be the only one in this thread that has actually sent radios to Mike, since this thread started, and I already mentioned that he serviced them and returned them to me in about a week’s time (I live within a couple hours of Mike, so the shipping time was quick).
I don’t think Mike is sub’ing work out, because the handwritten invoice was in the same handwriting as previous invoices ( I kept them for reference).
Also, there were additional notes in the invoice concerning the excessive heat generated by some ICs in these particular Bearcat scanners I sent, and Mike fashioned some heatsinks for the ICs, in order to reduce the damage from heat. That was not prompted by my request, he did that on his own.
Something I did note that is different from previous repairs I have sent...return shipping was handled by USPS Priority Mail. In the past, Mike used FedEx. These two Bearcat scanners (shipped in one box), were delivered back without issue, but I would have thought the size was more appropriate for FedEx or UPS. Comparing the cost of return shipping to previous repairs, it was about the same (approx. $20) but take into consideration there were two old Bearcat 300 scanners in the box (they are not light) and other repairs were just a single CB radio, so I believe Mike chose this method to save me $$$ on return shipping.
I don’t know why Mike stopped posting YT videos, and I don’t know why he doesn’t respond to phone calls or emails. If I were to guess, based on watching every video Mike ever uploaded, and having the chance to speak with him on the phone once (for about 30 minutes, and he was just like he is on the videos), I would guess Mike has had the a$$ of fellow YouTubers that want to b*itch about him, and that for many of us today, we live in an America that is becoming increasingly difficult to recognize, due to a global agenda that is being forced upon us. He may just want to go off grid and do his job quietly.
But I can say, in my very recent experience, Mike is still in business...and alive.
