I'm still using a RF EXTREME 2018 with mine, works great.
"Roger Beep?......We don need no stinking roger beep!"Did President ever fix the non existent Roger beep on the McKinley USA?
I was looking at buying one from Amazon.

Fix it? McKinley's have a RB...Just ain't all that loud and annoying as the Galaxy's...Did President ever fix the non existent Roger beep on the McKinley USA?

Why would you want it any louder? When the President McKinley first came out it was well known that there was an issue with the Roger beep. The beep tone was so low it was barley heard over the air.
I'm just wondering if president ever addressed that?
So if you are using it in a base environment you can do a couple of things to boost the mic audio.
#1 - Drill a hole where the microphone element is centered in the microphone. I did this and it made it much clearer. Because it's behind the plastic it's a bit muffled.
#2 - Add a Road Devil D104 Noise Cancelling Power microphone - I use these on the President Lincoln II and President McKinely radios and they are a great match. Punchy and loud but without the extra background noise. I get some great feedback on the audio with this microphone+McKinley. DXMan on the forum has heard it and can tell you how they match up.
#3 - Add a UR6QW 8 band equalizer and use it inline with the stock microphone. This is what I'd doing right now. Brings up your audio a ton, more consistent output on SSB with the compression, and you can still use the up/down buttons on the stock microphone!
Or you could always just leave it as is too if you're happy with it!
That's just it..."It does work correctly!" It's just not a loud annoying type beep, like what you would hear on a Galaxy or Connex radio... It is audible...People do hear it...I know this because I have been told more than once to "Turn off that Gay-Queer-Roger Beep"...Why put a feature in a radio if its not working correctly?
I don't understand why some many hate roger beeps?
I have always enjoyed a simple HR 2510 or Ranger 2950 roger beep on AM.
Where do you think it would be made that would make you happy? Never going to be made in USA, Germany, Switzerland etc....Vietnam or Endo China did not ask for us to come to their ocuntry and get involved in their war. They did not bomb us or threaten us we had no business being their. It is a shame so many young men had to die their for no good reason at all! Guess were most of the silica and optical glass comes from yep Vietnam! So do not buy a rifle scope or telescope since it will have glass made from Vietnam silica.I'm not interested / enthused with this radio. I used it for about thirty-minutes and packed it up. I will be going to the UPS store @ 0900 today to return it to Amazon.
Oh yeah, the radio was made in Vietnam which is a BIG issue with me.
I've hooked-up my good old 2002 Uniden Grant XL and I'm all set.
If your "poofing" an amp it is not because your RF power and mic gain are not locked down. Your radio is not set up right, poor match between radio and amp or the user is negligent. This radio is nice how the Rf power and mic gain is locked via menu. Adds extra safeguard to keep from poofing an amp.
RF power is designed so that you can adjust your power output down to less than full power not to match to an amp since this is an FCC legal radio and should be under 4watts out of the box. After having the radio for only one hour I agree with you 100%. Maybe $119.95 would be a good price to pay for a new radio. I prefer to have rotating knobs in lieu of push-in buttons. My opinion is that the only use for the adjustable RF Power feature is if you plan to connect to a linear amplifier, and the bar graph is difficult to see and adjust if the radio is in a vehicle.
The radio transmitted and received with no negative issues, but it's not for me.
