Real CB Radios are side mic

So you just put the mic jack on the side and that makes it an awesome radio? Ok no problem.......

Hahaha, i know right. I have a couple of cb radios and all my hf rigs are front microphone. I guess they are all garbage radios that suck. No wonder i cant be heard on the air, it was my mic jack location the whole time

Don't forget the ProCom. Has been my go to mic for a few weeks now. Beating out the 636, rk56, sr198 and d104m6b. And the price is right too. You just have to try it.

I just bought a ProCom, and to my surprise, it's not the mic I was thinking about. The Aries mic is the loud one, says power mic on the front, just got one of those too. The ProCom says noise cancelling on the front, and is a good mic. But the Aries will get loud but not all treble like an m6b, and probably even louder too. Use the Aries to set the modulation limiter on voice peaks while listening to a monitor radio. I set it up on one of my 86v radios and I was a little surprised what it will do. This is the one you want. Still only about $25.

No SSB (hardest hit)
No meter (worthy of the name)
Etc

When the little switch engines have done their jobs . . .

. . it’ll be the The Big Iron ventures out into the night.

(Learned that son got his type rating today for the 747-400. The Dash 8 freighter version he’ll be flying can get airborne at one-million pounds. Gonna have to send him a side mic adapter).

.
How about if you have a side mic, SSB, fullsize case but an unworthy meter? Does the extra freq counter digit make up for that?

To use that meter effectively could mean being relegated to the company lot after The Big Iron has departed.

These’ll also help in reading whether the coffee urn is getting low.

So, yeah, as the new yard dog, that’s a really fine-looking radio.

I could never quite understand the Real-Estate that such a radio has, but never invested, into an EZ-Read meter.

You know?

I just thought of something...

A lot of Cobra 25's and PC-66's were SIDE Mic as well, but just a smaller package - just wanted to point that out...

IF you want a Side-Mic - in earlier days - pretty much any radio you bought, had that as Standard - much like - you can have any Color - as long as it's Black (FORD) and you can run any type of drive, as long as it was AUTOMATIC (GM) and those others? Well, you bought the vehicle and dealt with what you got.

Else - you got batteries for...

Too late for me, I'm already "Side-Mic diseased". Wait a minute, maybe I was born that way!

But are they sideband equipped?

Surely you fellas aren’t going to enter a foot race as one-legged men?
Funny you said that Slowmover! I only own CB's that are side-mic and SSB. I guess that's why I was asking about the DX86V, but a 959 with the proper amp would do just fine (I got the bug to buy a new one, don't know why), and not many choices left that are through hole anymore.
