Video/review of the revolutionary Icom-7300 Software defined Export CB

my ts 2000 has a very good receiver and transmit is great with just the stock mic. the 7300 i could only get around 45 watts out of it. with the stock mic. my 2000 will do over 100 watts out all day. sorry to rain on your parade 7300 owners. the radio has lots of eye candy that is about it.

Well, you are not raining on my parade, just your own.
It is quite obvious to me, based on your posts, that my 7300 performs much better than the experience you have had with yours.
As I posted earlier, my 7300 will transmit up to 135 watts output on SSB, and swing up to 80~85 watts output on AM transmit. This is with the RF power setting at 100% ......
It will do this with the stock microphone set at around 50% mic gain.
With the Heil ICM microphone, it will do the same with a mic gain setting of 10~12% .....
As with anything, you can occasionally get a piece of equipment that does not perform as well as it should be. Very simple and easy "fix" , software adjustment to correct and bring up to par.
No "Mods" required ......just a simple adjustment, and not internally either. The case is not opened to do the software adjustment. Done all from the front with the buttons and knobs.
But you do need to know what is to be done and how to do it ......
For the cost of the 7300, I am very well pleased with its' performance .....
 
i bought the heil icm and the matching heil ptt stand it did nothing to improve the wattage. possibly just got a lemon. dont know
ill just stick with my kenwood
 
you have to drive the 7300 REAL hard to get anything near the advertised output. overriding the FACTORY set default settings is hardly a secret.

Did you take your 135 watt reading into a true 50 ohm load?

BTW, there were two more "almost brand new" 7300's on QTH yesterday for >$950.:ROFLMAO:
 
My 7300 does over 100 watts on SSB as well.

This is with the supplied HM-219 microphone.

I also have a Heil PR40 but all my friends tell me the HM-219 sounds better and is louder so I use the latter and get great audio reports.

No, I don't have to drive my 7300 hard at all. RF power output setting at 50% will generally have output power swing up to 80~85 watts .....
Not "overriding factory settings" at all. Just a minor software adjustment.
I generally have my RF power setting at 20~25%, mic gain set at 10~12% (with Heil ICM microphone), and the radio output at those settings generally will be around 35~45 watts output.
When I run barefoot radio only, I'll turn the RF power up to 90~100%, and the radio will swing any where from 100~130 watts output. (up to 150 watts output on 80 meters)
I use a "Palstar DL2.5HP" dummy load, rated for 2.5KW ...... has a low and Hi setting.
I use very expensive Array Solutions VSWR / Power meters. I have three of them.
I have been operating my I-7300 for a little over a year now.

there is a reason people are selling them.
 
Probably because most folks who are selling them are not aware of, or have knowledge of how to perform the simple software adjustments.

Does the manual say anything about how to make the adjustments? For the anan radios the manual gives instructions for calibration. Maybe is something to be expected from sdr based rigs.

Yes, the "IC-7300 Service Manual" does have the proper procedure.
Not in the Owner/Operator Manual that is supplied with the radio.
 
if your 7300 does not output the advertised power why not just send it in for warranty service?

You can do that, and wait for awhile, shipping to and from.
It is a 5~10 minute procedure to do it. I have performed the procedure on a couple of the IC-7300 radios. Easy to do. I would not recommend that anyone does it.
