That is fantastic! Glad you found a part you needed to complete a set! Truly happy for you!
It is sad to say but finding anything now is diffacult. It took me 3 years to get a OEM transmission filter for one car and about the same to get an OEM steering intermediate shaft for another! Easy to...
Do not take this the wrong way. I believe you are being honest. So that said what have you checked out on this radio? Did you do anything to it? Every factory cranks out some lemons but the Cobra 19 + was no gem. I think you got a lemon like if you got a Corvette that could not out accelerate a...
I knew a kid in a trailer in Hinesvile Ga that was using a FireStick on a roof gutter mount, a tiny Realistic or Cobra 40ch radio and a tiny wall-wort to power it. As long as people where behaving and the alligator stations and mobiles where not stomping around he was heard just fine. In fact I...
By the right radio or amp for each other.
Plenty of people try to use a Stryker 955 with an amp that is not designed for that much drive. Likewise a HD amp was not designed for a 3 watt radio! Not secret information you need to join a secret society to learn!
It is not at all hard to find a...
An affordable modern scope likely has FFT which while not a true spectrum analyzer it good enough for most with out needing to hunt down and expensive piece of gear you might not use often! Different it you need it to make a living.
Especially today! It is not like it was 20 years ago and computer speakers had metal shielding inside the plastic case designed to keep out RFI. Those days are gone.
Amazing what can be done with a 3D Printer for sure.
That said just like in the past it is too easy to bolt a mobile to a desktop or add stick on feet. Add a cheap power supply and cheap freq. counter today. Technicaly it has a freq. indicator not to be confused with a freq. counter that is...
For what they will want for this I am holding out for true NPC, eSSB, Digital Modes, PC or Android interface 100%, DSP and EQ on RX and TX, user definable audio and tx bandwidt and not at all FCC Part 95 compliant! Anything else is a "Why Bother". Shake $hit up and give me a good HF rig at a low...
A lot of people think that. Back when you had to purchase 2950's from HRO and they where $400 radio's they where really good. You needed a real technician not a butcher to go through one.
Half of the worthwhile modifications that ended up in the RCI2950 Bible and such where developed by myself...
Oh I turned 51 today and I got this as one of many low priced gifts for myself. Instead of spending big anymore with two sons out 3 still in college I get myself 3-4 smaller gifts for my birthday starting a few months out!
If you like headphones for listening to music you owe it to yourself to...
So not only could I not find any video's showing the radio's modulation charteristics at low power but zero NPC video's showing modulation envelope at low power!
Given that the radio tops out at 50 watts in this age of 100+ watt radios you would think someone would say " I should demonstrate...
My limited experince with NPC is that you want to have low carrier with forward swing. The idea of getting all of your power out of the radio is basicly a@$ backwards and you have to run external amplification. Again look at guys ont he Bowl!
So mosfet finals likely are not the best way to go...
I have a 10 pack of the old Palomar "7030?" and Max Mod when they first came out with them.
I would be intersted in knowing how anyones mod's and the factory NPC has turned out!!
My single transistor amps will key and latch nicely as long as I have 1/4 watt carrier! That said it is only good...
I do wish he would have showed us the NPC turned down as low as it would go on AM.
I am sure that some of what was not shown was due to price point since this radio is so cheap. Not enough meat on the bone for someone making a living selling modified radio's!
That is not meant as a insult to...
I just ordered a Radioddity version. I am thinking about hooking it up to a 1 or 2 MRF454 amp.
I am thinking about turning it down as low as it can go and then using the built in Asymetric modulation setting or NPC setting.
If I only use it that way on AM it should be ok. In my area CB is...
I know I am the minority voice that is not a fan of the RFX series of bolt on amps on this forum! That said way to go! You did it yourself and you got an outcome you can live with! Cheer's! All the best!
Yes the Cobra 148 GTL and Uniden Grant XL are the gold standard for radio's especialy post 1980's!!
Everything is either better or worse than this design! Prior to the modern Cobra 148GTL and Uniden Grant XL I would have to say the gold standard prior to that was the Uniden Export/Cybernet...
I wish they would go back to the old DX-100 and offer a unit with a bipolar. It is not as if HG does not exist and sell bipolars.
My first amp was a DX-100 on the back of an RCI2950 in 1991.
It is bad enough I have to have radio's with non-rf mosfets in them the last thing I want is a bolt...
