It was a real disappointment when I turned on the rig today. Plenty of skip in there, but they were all covered up by two Illinois stations . In addition to 1775's repeated "CQ" calls, Some other operator (I use the word loosely) kept repeating over and over, " RogerD, RogerD, RogerD from Chicago." Normally I would blow it off, but today I just wasn't in the mood.
Contacts on the regular sideband freqs (36 - 40) are getting to be a waste of time. No one wants to have a decent conversaion anymore. All you get after answering a CQ call is,"Thanks for the comeback, my friend. Catch you later. 73." A really meaningful contact.

I ordered a new Quad 6 Pro right after Christmas with the plan to use it on FM. I suspect I will take BC Coyote's suggestion and explore the freqs above 40, as well as FM below channel 1. I hate to put the old Cobra on the shelf. but it doesn't have the frequency range to explore very far above 40, and, of course, no FM. So you gotta do what you gotta do. Anything to get away from the idiots.

Must be your neck-of-the-woods Robert, no trouble here chewing the fat on 10m most days if I choose. And local on 6m some days. And the idiots are all but non-existent.

This kind of stuff has been happening for ever, like I have posted before it drove some of us to get our Ham ticket to escape during solar cycles in the past.
And yep there are idiots on the ham bands as well, but considerably less than 11 meters.
And there is so much more room to play....

Out here there are weekly nets on Ten Meters, one every Wednesday night.

And there are operators that focus on contesting and are passionate about it.

I was listening to the Ten meter contest a while back and guys are working hard to make as many contacts as possible with no intention of really carrying on a conversation.
It's like some people like FT-8 ( I don't care for it but different strokes ...) that's about as automated as contact making can get in my opinion.

It's how it rolls.

I heard you around 3pm having a qso with another operator here in Arkansas. Tried to make contact after you finished, but the conditions shifted and that ass hat 585 on the big island kept keying up on everyone.

as i said so many oppertunitys on 10 meters but contesting kills a chance to talk to others far away ,might learn some interesting things if they would chat instead of headcount.
i think ive had maybe 3 chats on 10 meters and every time a pesky head counter would blurt in killing other person with qrzed whats call sign .
the last 1 the other guy i talked with said im done with 10 meters due to this n that head counter never quit asking us for our credentials. we signed off as supposed to do n 5 minutes later he was still crowing asking for our info
