best 11meter vertical ever, period.

they're all the best antenna ..... to the person that paid for it .... or at least at that time they thought it was . some find out later it wasn't and some stay happy . what works best for one may not work better than another because of tx/rx performance or effort to get up and running . taller/longer seems to work better for most folks .... but not always . $$$ has a lot to do with it too . and of course bragging rights .

I think BM hit a home run here. This is probably what influences the vast majority of CB antenna reports we see on these forums and if things don't go so smoothly, then we might see a bad report or hear about someone destroying the antenna and throwing it in the trash.

I found the ultimate CB antenna....

The magnetic base A99 Wilson 3/4 wave Astroduster directional quad beam.
It's warranted to never set below 1.5 swr and only radiate on a 41 Packard.

But can it out talk a 3 element yagi and give a 4 element a run got it's money like 4040's Gainmaster can?

OK, but I will make this brief...

The Sigma IV was (is) a great antenna! To this day, I love the way they look! While PHYSICALLY 3/4 of a wave length long, electrically it is nothing more than a 1/2 wave antenna.

To quote one of the engineers who worked for Avanti;

So there you have it. The Sigma IV is a real neat 1/2 wave antenna. My experience is that the Sigma 5/8 wave performed better than my Sigma IV. Your mileage may vary.

I will test the Sigma IV against the Sigma 5/8 and the I-10K someday. I fully expect the I-10K to soundly beat the other two as my personal experience with all three has already proven.

I own one as well and my findings are the same. My 5/8 wave sigma 5/8 works better than the Sigma 4.

When you have a verticle that will ,why bother with a beam.

Can you or some one explain what you are talking about.

I like the gainmaster for various reasons, even though I don't own one, but how can the GM, a vertical antenna which is supposed to have 1-2 dBi over a 5/8 (which would put it around 4-5 dbi ) be better than a 3 element beam which has about a 9dbi gain.

May be I am missing something here so please let me know, thanks in advance. good day.

I think you've got the gist of it. The likelihood of a simple vertical antenna having more gain than a beam on the same band is very, very unlikely (especially at HF). Unless the beam has some serious problems... :)

It is in reference to an asinine statement that 4040 made:

fortymobile' timestamp='1318723837' post='642109']
From all the test i do switching back and forth between the to is 1/2 or 1 s .....i would say it will whoop the snot out of a 3 element all day long i don't care what the propagation is but it will give a 4 element a run for its money...

I used to respect his dedication to the hobby but that statement voids it.For whatever reason some clueless people admire and look up to him and chances are they will take what he says as gospel. There are plenty of places/people to learn about our hobby from but Scottie is not one of them.Maybe I'm of base here and his Gainmaster "will whoop the snot out of a 3 element all day long", when it's hooked to his Nextel.

ask my buddy master chief if he still thinks the sigma is just a 1/2wave.

i know of at least two people on here that can make a sigma4 outperform any 5/8wave.

if the beam is assembled wrong , tuned badly , has bad coax or coax connectors , is pointed in the wrong direction , had a significant height disadvantage or is just in a bad spot (like at a red light when you move 6 inches to make the stereo radio clean up) a omni could give it a run for it's money ....... i think .

if it's put together right , tuned reasonably well ind in a similar location with good feed-line and pointed in the right direction i say no way . even IF the gain were the same .... your ears would still benefit from the backside rejection that no omni can give .
