uniden pc 66 XL no power

Check bootstraps, Output Cap - polarity of it too. Supposed to run 1/2 rail voltage, so if cap went south - shorted, the rail sees a full 13.8 volt power supply rail and it's trying to drop 1/2 of it across itself internally...

Else look for a cap across Pin 3 - C501 on schematic, but it goes to chassis case - Chassis Ground - not foil ground.

How is the condition of Pin 3 ACROSS to Chassis ground? SHOULD NOT SHOW SHORT!

what do you mean check boot traps?

LOL!

Ok, C63 Ripple Filter 47uf 25V, C59 - 4.7uf TANALUM C59 may be a likely culprit. C67 output cap 470uF 16V

And mare sure your boot straps are tied...

Guees I never sent this last night - WOW...

Yah! Yah!

Ok, when a radio starts to work, after any type power supply issue, these crop up. Weakened parts, they start to rear their ugly head.

Is - C67 that 470uF still ok?

That Tantalum at C59 is similar to what Cobra uses in their 25 line you can see their side of it here. At least a clearer copy of it ...
