I really miss my old 2970, it was a talker. I talked all over the US in the mobile on that thing. The family took a trip to Mt. Rushmore a few years ago and that thing was a chatterbox all on the east coast. I got many a good report on that thing. You won't go wrong with that rig!

I've owned a few in the past too and never a problem with reverse swing. Maybe check it on another meter, or have a friend check it out on his gear.

These transceivers were notorious for static in the RX as well as poor adjacent channel rejection. I owned one and it was real bad in the mobile, not so much when it was on the base station.

AOR receivers are good also. I just picked up an AR8600 U and the thing is sensitive. It is also expandable for digital with the release of their APCO 25 board. A little pricey if you want to just listen to the new digital systems (get the Uniden for that), but all-around-- it's a nice receiver!
